Since the 2004 debut of An EP: Avenues, shortwave radio has been on nearly 300 college radio stations across the nation, which included charting on UCLAs station (KLA). This year the band was singled out as one of the most unique indie acts in Nashville and it played along with others in the All About Music concert series as well as being included on the Ten out of Tenn compilation.
Since its formation in 2001 shortwave radio has been through many changes. Band members have come and gone, songs have shifted genres, all in search of a home.
"Artistically speaking, shortwave radio is really building on the vision of that first EP I released,"says Andy. "I put a lot of pressure on myself to convey what I was saying both through lyrics and music. The music should always reinforce what you are trying to say."
shortwave radio draws on influences from Radiohead, The Police, Stereolab and Badly Drawn Boy among others; however, the purpose of shortwave radio's music is really quite different. Andy puts it this way, "I guess the real reason I do music is that I want to make you feel that no matter what you are going through, youre never alone."
