ShouWang is founder-member of the Chinese new music movement "NO BEIJING", the primary new generation avant-garde representation in China today. He is the guitarist/vocalist for "CAR-SICK CARS", formed in 2005, one of Beijing's leading iindie/noise bands. In addition, he is guitarist and composer for WHITE NO.1, a seven-piece band, created in tribute to the music of Glenn Branca and Steve Reich. He also works on two other related projects. WHITE-2J, which was created for works done jointly with Joewi Verhoeven, and his main vehicle, WHITE, with Shenggy, a musician with whom he has worked very extensively.
ShouWang is the nucleus of the new generation of Chinese music, as performer and composer, and an influential guitarist in the Chinese music scene. In February 2006, he joined Glenn BRANCA and John Myers in New York City for the recording of Branca's famous Symphony No.13 for 100 Guitars. he has peformed with a number of prominent musicans from China and abroad, including avant-garde legend Elliott Sharp (all four of his Beijing and Shanghai peformances during his 2006 tour), Einsturzende Neubauten mastermind Blixa Bargeld, American composer Alvin Curran, New York guitaris John Myers, and legendary Chinese music critic Yan Jun.
ShouWang plays guitar,analog pedals and toys, organ and keyboard, theramine, gu zheng, and effects.
