Shoveldance is an eclectic four-piece dance rock band consisting of four brothers, Justin, Travis, Trenton and Evan. Sons of Kim Henspeter (of Cavemen fame along with countless other local bands) the brothers of Shoveldances combinine the sounds of soul, country, classic pop, R&B, reggae, folk, and ska, with catchy tunes and a stripped down punk rock-ish aesthetic to make it all sound coherent. Originally from the small town of Marshall, MN (exactly…it's out by South Dakota), they are now based in Saint Paul, MN. After much hand-wringing and hype, their debut EP, "Hot Bananas", was released in June of 2006.
In addition to original material (the main focus of the band), the boys also draw from two other sources. First, from side project Henspeter Theory (a band originally assembled to perform at friends’ weddings). Henspeter Theory specializes in covering 50s and 60s tunes that you can dance to (with a pinch of 70s, 80s, 90s and current hits, too!). A fun time is had by young and old alike at their live shows. Secondly, songs from member’s former punk projects: room101 (Justin & Travis) and Five Foot Assassins (Trenton, Evan & eventually Travis on second guitar and former Shoveldance bassist, Kelly). All this adds up to a large surplus of songs that allow Shoveldance to rock any venue that’ll have ‘em.
So, if you like to dance, dance, dance…Shoveldance is your ticket!
