ABOUT JAMES MARTIN:
James Martin was born in Portland, Oregon. He is the youngest of nine children. James came from a talented family known for their singing skills and was blessed at an early age with extraordinary vocal talent at the age of six or seven years old. He and his sister, Mertria, were often called upon to lead songs for the children’s and later on the adult choirs. Music mentors like the Boyd family, the Wrights, Mother Hepburn, alone with his Pastor, Bishop W.L. McKinney recognized that musical call and sought to cultivate it.
Martin first became interested and eventually anointed to play piano and Organ in 1973, and was inspired one day to write songs like the late James Cleveland, king of gospel music; one of his music heroes,
In 1974, Martin was asked to served with Jessie Hall and the Gospel Zephyr’s recording project in Reno, Nevada of which he led two of the recording albums songs. Though Martin’s was called to preach in 1973, his passion for music continues as he sought to advance his skills as a musician, lead singer as called call upon.
Elder Martin, who is also a evangelist has managed over the years to combine his gifts as a singer and as well as a preacher to prove that he does have a heart for ministry, both in word and in song: a definite, recognizable God-given talent that certainly touched the lives of many over and over again.
Elder Martin prefers traditional gospel music and admires the gospel artists who can developed a style of music competence with the current time without losing the sacredness that should remain in gospel music: a good example of that would be Walter Hawkins’ song: “Through it all.”
In the year of 2000, Martin finally discovered his gifts to compose and write songs recorded his first Debut Album entitled: “Time of Refreshing” in 2001. Since that time he has written over 40 or more songs and has plans for future recordings! Elder Martin enjoys writing and composing music and believe its his time now! I appreciated the sound advices I’ve received from various artists in my life, especially Min. Jeffery LaValley, the main producer for the “Time of Refreshing” project. I have been able to incorporate those words of wisdom from these great artists to strive for excellences in gospel music.
Now At age 54, Martin is ready to share his message of songs to the world. His number one passion is: to develop music that will be Unique, and Remarkable: A timeless masterpiece: God alone will get the glory!
Elder Martin is a family man, and is married to Cora, wife of fifteen years: they have four children, and seven granddaughters, and one grandson.
