The Scrabbling
All my free time of late has been Scrabbled. I am just getting into Scrabulous. I am playing exactly one person on the Facebook application, but I can be found in the Bingo Boomers room on Facebook.com. My handle is Muckraker. That's also my handle on isc.ro, where I've been playing for about four years.
I never intended to start playing this game so much, but when I realized you could play on the Web, I recalled the fun I had playing when I was younger and jumped in.
This is the year I am aiming to join National Scrabble Association and begin playing in tournaments in Philly and York. I'd also like to start a Scrabble club in Pottsville-ish area.
The Hooping
I coach girls' basketball with Hollywood Harry Folino at JS Clarke Elementary. We've been doing this for the past five years (he for about 8) and so far, no titles. We coach 3d and 4th grade in the Winter and 5th and 6th grade in the fall. This past 3/4 season, we finished with a record of 8 wins, 2 losses and in second place.
Our last middle school team finished 6-4, but we've got eyes on the 2008 season for that team. Once I had a girl flip me off in the middle of a game because I told her she needed to square her feet when she took 3-pointers, which Harry and I encourage. She was an awesome player, but that was the last time she took the court for us. We finished co-champs once, but that's it, and it really doesn't count.
Music
Apparently my musical interests have always been "gay". I've been known to do housekeeping while listening to the West Side Story soundtrack on vinyl, but then listen to a Roots album.
I've had a from puberty-on crush on Bjork. I will need an explanation on this gem I found on YouTube ...
I spent $30 in the Import CD section of some record store at the Colonial Park Mall for this rare Bjork album. I think my mother never returned this CD but now I can watch and listen any time I'd like.
I am beginning to think my affinity for Norah Jones is too cliche, and am having doubts.
Willie Nelson is someone I've learned to lean on during tougher times.
I like to listen to marching bands ... but I was never in one ... EVER. I couldn't even play flutophone. Mr. Kiehner yelled at me so bad one day because I just didn't understand what the hell a C note was.
I've been compared to a clarinet, but not in that way. Wink.
The truth is the only musical talent I have is listening to it. I don't think I am much of a dancer because I've never gotten down. But I like to think I can and since I've never danced for real, or while taking it seriously, so maybe a dance class is in my future?
Television
Game shows have been a favorite 30 minutes of mine since the formative years. Then it was Press Your Luck, Scrabble and of course, TPIR.
Jeopardy! is DVR'd. And I am still a sucker for anything Woolery that didn't air on FOX (Greed). Watching Lingo now.
I am always up for a Law and Order marathon, but give Michael Moriarty episodes any day.
I can recite every Seinfeld episode, and am getting close on Curb.
Any lady would be wise to select me during a Sex in the City trivia party.
Most shows I like get canceled. I'm talking to you The State and Stella. TV may never provide the proper platform for Michaels Showalter and Black, or David Wain. I have been watching this show on the Web lately ... Very funny.

About me:
... and I'm going to do it again this year.
Writer by trade. Formerly employed as a journalist. Then I gave myself a job running an alternative newspaper in Pottsville, Pa.
Newspapers are changing and really aren't doing much to provide you with the news. I tried my best, really, but motivating the public these days to common interests is very difficult, especially when you can't afford to print in color.
I think people are caught up in themselves far too much, and are distracted by big businesses trying to run people's lives. The sad part of it is, they're winning. For the most part, I see people stuck in a rut. Perhaps that's just Pottsville.
I long to cover European 'football' or the ATP tennis tour for a wire service. It'd give me a chance to finally travel and get paid to watch sports and tell people about it.
I started my writing career with an interest in sports, and really that's how I want to retire writing.
Currently I work for a law firm based in New York, NY, Parker Waichman Alonso LLP, as an independent-contract writer. I write for five blogs based on the firms legal interests: big Pharma, MedTech and personal injury. It's turned out to be a nice gig, and done from the comforts of home: Bad Medical Devices, Drug Injury realeditorbest profile toolsrealeditorbest profile tools
Who I'd like to meet: I saw Pete Rose eating Chicken a la King in the Reading Phillies' locker room. I interviewed John Kruk while he was wearing compression shorts and his stomach flopped slightly out of his T-shirt after he wrapped a commercial shoot in Reading. The only other sports reference: I'd really like to meet Allen Iverson.
Ralph Nader is a dynamic civic hero, and still deep-down past the scorn I have for what the mainstream media did to me and the public in general, being a civic leader or elected official is an aspiration of mine.
Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:
Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella
Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.
Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.
