Hailing from Connecticut, a state known more for its casinos then its music scene. Shut Up and Deal formed around five friends, who came together to create a passionate, driven pop rock band intent on making music that can not only be heard but be felt.
The band, Joe Heafy (lead vocals), Bill Laudenslager (bass/vocals), Pat Kish (lead guitar/vocals), Mike Kytoski (drums) and Paul LaBosky (guitar/vocals) started like most do, with five like-minded individuals who had an undeniable work ethic and lived for music.
Wasting no time the guys hit the studio and cut their first EP, Don’t Act Like You’re Not Impressed. A 7-song record that represents a compilation of ideas and emotions, which range from devotion, inspiration and optimism.
Combining a major label mindset with a DIY work ethic the band headed out on regional tours all over the Northeast and East Coast before their debut EP had even been pressed. The guys played more than 80 shows in a short span of five months. All of which were self-booked and self promoted. Since those late winter months of ’09, the guys have been on the road ever since.
Kicking off a U.S. tour on June 5th with a sold out record release show, the band left Connecticut with no signs of looking back. Touring across the country and meeting up with the Vans Warped Tour, the guys searched out and found tour organizer and founder, Kevin Lyman.
Looking to help out wherever they could, the guys wanted to prove themselves and earn the respect of anyone and everyone they could. Splitting time between volunteering in production and catering the guys quickly started turning heads.
Once a band, following the tour and hustling records out of their backpack…turned into a legitimate force that had sold more than 3,000 records and were drawing 350+ kids at the scattered Warped Tour dates that they were personally added to.
With the recent release of their debut EP, the upcoming months show no signs of slowing down for band as they plan to criss-cross the country non-stop hoping to turn as many heads as they can until the New Year.
