Shut Up Travis is a third-wave, pop, ska/funcore band from Montgomery, Alabama comprised of six, better-than-bad, ska musicians; two of which live their boring lives in Mobile, Alabama. But before this current line-up, the band had gone through stress and strife since 2003 adding and dropping members like a hipster in a thrift store. But with the line-up of 2004, Shut Up Travis entered the battle of the bands, landing a spot opening for Hootie and the Blowfish at the prestigious Montgomery Jubilee City Fest. Seeing an opportunity for something good, Shut Up Travis decided to record a CD (that stands for compact disk). Released in the summer of 2004, "Finally" was a modest home recording of their earlier tunes. After a brief separation due to failed college careers, Shut Up Travis reunited realizing that playing music was not a bad day job. After a few more additions, subtractions and other complex, mathematical equations,
Shut Up Travis came back strong in the summer of 2005, snatching up shows at frat parties and clubs at various southeastern locales. Having tons of pent up emotion, Shut Up Travis decided to enter the studio for a second time, but this time they decided to pool their money together in an effort to produce the cd completely on their own. After four months of intense, home recording, they finalized the product, "Now What", which was released towards the end of 2006. Thereafter, the original trumpet player, Matt Bell, left to pursue other goals. They quickly stole a new trumpet player (Dave Cole) from best-friend-band, The Rude Robots that March of 2007. November 2007, Shut Up Travis was offered an opening slot for Big D and the Kid's Table, Whole Wheat Bread, and The AKA's. In January 2008, Dave brought muscle-man and training Navy Seal Brett Jones into the picture for a weekend try-out of shows. This created a new line-up: Paul Boley on guitar and vocals, Jacob Sloan on bass and background vocals, Steve Bell on drums, Dave Cole on trumpet and background vocals, Chris Lawrence on tenor sax, and Brett Jones on trombone. In February and March of 2008, they also began work on their self-titled and also self-recorded EP, “Shut Up Travis”, which took a week of recording and forever and a nickel in mixing. On May 23rd, 2008, they left their homes and went on a six week tour through the eastern half of the U-S-of-A. Coming home after the life on the road, Shut Up Travis found their lives weak and meaningless back home, so Brett quit to do God knows what. In order to recover from their loss of a trombone, Dave now plays trombone and they picked up a new trumpet player, Sam Lidgard, in October 2008 from previously said, best-friend-band the Rude Robots. Recently, we also lost Jake and have now picked up Zach Taylor on bass. With all of that said, Shut Up Travis is a hardworking band that is willing to do what it takes to be heard. They are confident that their up-tempo songs and high-energy shows will destroy the hardcore, whining emotional competition. They are making an effort to book as many shows as they can to promote themselves, their albums, and their new EP to make a good run as a professional band. Give them a few kids, a giant crowd, or a practice space, and good times will be had by anyone in audible distance.
