Angie McLaughlin, a Scot transferred to Dublin via San Francisco, meets Gary Fitzpatrick (Great Western Squares, Pincher Martin, Ciunas) through a mutual friend. He agrees to bring her to an open mike night in a pub, the host doesn't show up, and the bar owner asks the two to takeover. After a few weeks of terrible poets and singers the pair decide to change the open mike policy and build a band instead to indulge in their passion for all things with lyrics, regardless of genre. After two years of carefully being unaware of what they were doing, The Sick and Indigent Song Club had grown to a multi-instrumental six-piece band, with Shane McGrath (Joan of Arse, Dog Day), Sheila Sullivan (Northlight Razorblade, The Racketeers, Pat Clafferty), Christian Volkmann (The Wandering Harrys, Ali & the DT's) and Gerry Fitzpatrick completing the lineup. They play a mixture of original, traditional and covers from anytime over the last few centuries, in no particular order. The band name comes from The Sick and Indigent Roomkeepers Society, the oldest extant charity in Dublin who's aging and listed headquarters Gary had ended up playing a few solo gigs in. They keep trying to record stuff but circumstances have a nasty habit of turning ugly. They have played various venues including the Electric Picnic, the Hugh Lane Gallery, Voodoo, Whelans, the over sixties night in the Dublin Conservative Club, and the wet homeless shelter on Aungier Street, but can normally be found playing for a tipjar upstairs in the Ha'penny Bridge Inn, every Monday night.

Hi there Sick and Indigent Song Club! Prison Love are playing the amazing Cobblestone bar in Smithfield this friday the 27h of March. Would love to see ya'll there for a fantastic night of low down and dirty fun. Doors are at 9p.m.,€12 in. Here's hoping to see you there!
Thanks for dropping in. Rainy Days, Shrew Shanty, Sarah Jane.... Those are some nice songs you have going, yourselves. I like the instrumentation: the accordion, the fiddle, the mandolin, the harmonica, the voices. If I were still living over in Ireland, I'd definitely call into either The Cobblestones, The Ha'penny Bridge Inn, or the front bar down at Whelan's, for a pint and a listen. No doubt, I'd leave feeling sick and indignant - always a good sign, when in Ireland. All the best with your work....
CD's are available mail order from theracketeers. com From April the album will be out in record shops in Germany on Cannery Row Records and by then it will also be available digitally from the usual outlets such as iTunes, Amazon etc...
