In a damp hole at the end of a fjord, surrounded by a lot of mountains, you’ll find one of the Hells on earth. The name of this one is Bergen. It was put on the map by the Norwegian King Olav Kyrre in the year 1070. For this he was never forgiven. The Saga of the Norwegian Kings hardly mentions him at all, and what they do mention is not really very nice.
Today many people think of Bergen as a very cultural place. They may be right, but the most prominent feature of the city is beyond doubt that it’s wet. But even though it rains here 466 days a year, the flames of hell never burn down. When the icy northern winds blow, they sometimes even grow taller. Anyway, the good thing about bad weather is that you can stay indoors. And when you spend most of your life indoors, you sometimes need something to do. To pass time, many of the inhabitants fumble around with more or less musical experiments. This has been going on for centuries, like a kind of curse.
In the mid 80s, some of these people somehow got the idea that their music was interesting enough to deserve an audience. This resulted in “Sick Little Label” – an independent record label that over the years has released a lot of records from the Bergen underground music scene. Most of the records were released only on vinyl, and in editions limited to 500-1000 copies, so the audience was still quite small. But it was a good audience!
Nonetheless, it is sad fact that a huge majority of the ears out there are completely oblivious to the music of “Sick Little Label”. In an attempt to change this, the very same people who created “Sick Little Label” more than 20 years ago have decided that the time is ripe for turning SLL into an internet label. And since we gave up on the myth of making money on music a long time ago, we have decided to give all the old stuff away as free high quality mp3 downloads! We intend to offer exclusive new releases, best-of collections, as well as ordinary releases.
Most mp3 releases from “Sick Little Label” are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported License.
