My name is Simon.
I am a Music Producer, Studio Recording Engineer and Song-writer based in North London. Please browse through some samples of my work on the player music player (left).
I am proud to have been involved with hundreds of projects over the last few years ranging from major-label releases (including Arctic Monkeys, OMD, Thea Gilmore) to helping local bands make high quality recordings.
Biog
Simon trained in Sound Technology at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) and graduated top-of-the-class in 2005. He was immediately invited to take a resident position at Liverpool's premier recording studio.
Over nearly four years based at The Motor Museum, Simon was production assistant to Andy McCluskey (OMD, Atomic Kitten) and became Engineer-of-choice for several accomplished producers, including Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight, The Enemy) and Nigel Stonier (Thea Gilmore, Sandi Thom, Fairport Convention) as well as working on sessions alongside established music-makers such as James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco) and the legendary John Leckie (Stone Roses, Radiohead, Simple Minds).
It was through this experience that Simon was able to begin forging a name for himself as a Producer and Engineer in his own right, and developed a close relationship with the Liverpool music scene and Deltasonic Records. His reputation as a talented engineer, a fast worker and a ‘safe pair of hands’ made The Motor Museum one of the most popular recording studios in the North-West. It wasn’t long before Simon’s work began to get noticed on a wider scale. Recent work of note includes engineering/mixing for OMD, whose version of “Whole Again” [Liverpool Number Ones Project (EMI, 2008)] outplayed the album’s lead single on BBC Radio 2 in the week of release. Later that year, Simon’s mix of “Telegraph (The Manor Version 1981)” from the archived analogue tapes, was featured on Virgin Records' 25th anniversary rerelease of the monumental 'Dazzleships' album. The autumn of 2008 saw Simon engineering Thea Gimore’s lead single for the USA release of the Rykodisc album “Liejacker”. The single “Come Up With Me” became the most playlisted track on Triple A Radio. As a Songwriter, Simon has been involved with several artist development projects through Andy McCluskey’s White Noise label, including Maria Lawson’s “Sleepwalking” (Sony BMG, 2006). He has received interest from major publishing houses and was recognised by BBC Talent for his song “Under My Skin”.
Since going freelance at the end of 2008, Simon's varied experience and talent have been put to good effect. His production work with Accident Never Happen caught the attention of Art-Rocker magazine, who featured a preview of the album track "It made sense yesterday" on a cover-mount compilation CD. The pre-album single "New Year" that followed in January was released on the Euphonics label and went straight to BBC Radio 1 airplay with Zane Lowe. Since then Simon has engineered and mixed an independently funded folk album with Nigel Stonier & Stuart Negus, and most recently completed an album with Fiori for LA-based Long Live Crime Records which was released in Summer 2009 and received 5 star reviews.
Recent work includes...
Engineering and mixing for 80's legends OMD for the Liverpool Number Ones Project (January 2008, EMI) and for the 25th anniversary re-release of their album 'Dazzleships' (March 2008, Virgin).
Producing the new album for Norwegian Art Rockers Accidents Never Happen (release date tba).
Engineering Thea Gilmore's US single "Come Up With Me" (Rykodisc) from the album 'Liejacker'.
Engineering/Mixing for a commerical album project with singer/songwriter Stuart Negus. Produced by Nigel Stonier (Thea Gilmore, Fairport Convention).
...Other current projects include an an ongoing recording project with talented singer-songwriter, Sarah Dickson. Visit her page for a preview. I also have he honour of performing with The Sarah Dickson Trio - watch out for gig announcements on her page.

Last I heard, Cosmopolitan had sold the building, along with cubitt house, so it is no longer student housing. Our treasured battle scars of burned floors, taped windows and egg stains (which I think we discussed a long time ago) are all gone. If you mena the band, yes we do but in a limited form, since we all graduated and moved to different places, we haven't written or recorded much, which is a shame. Hopefully we'll manage it soon...
Hope is good.
Another former resident!
