"Think of us as erotic politicians" - Jim Morrisson
Where to start? Sidd is a songwriter with a penchant for the angular and obtuse, yet with a lyrical approach good enough to stand alone as prose. Think Jack Kerouac, but more forgetful.
The Self-Esteem is his vehicle.
Sammy - 50% Bonham, 50% Platini, 100% Sexy. The engine of the Self-Esteem and a veteran of that United Nations music entity known as The Ocean Band. It's French alright, but this engine starts up first time every time.
Angshu - The primal guitar ability of Johnny Greenwood combines with the introspect of Gandhi in a tour de force of Telecaster terror, sans pedals! When he's not playing guitar, Angshu impersonates such celebrities as Sir Paul and Stevie Wonder in the blogosphere. If the vehicle that is the Self-Esteem has upholstery, Angshu is it.
Jonathan - The only person in the band able to order food and ask the whereabouts of the washroom in Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien. If the Self-Esteem needs tyres, it's his P-bass driven lines that provide much-needed traction.
Sidd & His Self-Esteem; feeling good about yourself never sounded this good.
"Safe Inside My Room" has been growing on me lately. I really like it. It's moody. (It reminds me a bit of a couple songs I heard by a Greek band from the '60s called Paloma Bakiou.)
