" A Band to Watch out for" Mark Hill, Artful Dodger
"Sidecar 46 are making their debut in Bournemouth tonight in a sparce The Gander, which is a shame as these guys have a huge sound. Sidecar 46 play a mixture of styles with a smattering of US Rock and a formula of slow/fast energetic songs - but Sidecar 46 are more than just another post-hardcore band. Andy's drums are powerful and throbbing throughout, but his 'nervous' humour is lost on this crowd. Dan is a big haired bassist who headbangs throughout but like Andy, doesn't hold back on the power. Rob's vocals are clear almost in their entirety tonight, and despite the lack of crowd to perform to they have a clutch of decent songs that deserve to be heard by more people." Big Ross, BHone
"SIDECAR 46– This band blends all sorts of styles and genres. Grasp a very funky Supergrass punk grind and mix it with an early Metallica menace..now that is an odd mash up." bugbear promotions
"You find yourself singing along almost immediately, understanding why Sidecar are all the rave around Southampton at the moment. Not one track can be flawed and as with the primary objective of any EP you have to ask- did it make me want and crave more? To be honest, it left me gagging." RoomThirteen
"After a 4 minute demonstration of how to mix grunge, punk, metal, Britpop (and plenty of other musical genres) from the last decade the band announce they are "SIDECAR46". Now on the Southampton scene, they are starting to build up a good following here and it's easy to see why. They'll be gigging plenty over the next few months so I'd recommend you go check them out." MintSOUTH Magazine
Formed in 2003 at Warwickshire College, Rugby, after just jamming in a studio for a couple of hours one afternoon. After the time in the studio, the band came out of the room with a couple of songs written and loads more ideas in store, this was the first time Andy Convey, Rob Bray and Dan Fellows had played in a band with each other and it was clear that there was a musical link between the three.
They all had different music projects going on outside college so kept their band, later to be named Sidecar46, for college use. More songs came and with each small college performance came good reviews from papers and audiences. As the three became best friends the music they were writing took off and was soon recognised by producer John Rushton who advised the three to carry on with the band after college saying “if the band take their time and carry on like they’ve started, they are going to do very well from it”.
The band was given the chance in 2005 to perform in front of band scout Andy Ellis who described the music as “fresh and exciting.” The band recorded their first EP in April 2005, which received good feedback and gave the band a good platform to work on.
2006 saw the release of 'paper vs scissor vs rock vs glue and the band were on tour playing gigs all over England in some prestigious venues such as Dublin Castle (London), Hope and Anchor (London), Day and Night Café (Manchester) and The Joiners (Southampton).
From the summer of 2006, the band’s fan base had grown massively and the band was selling out venues at both ends of the country. In September 2006 the band all moved to the south coast to start university in Southampton. Since moving there they have played a handful of shows that have all sold out and received huge praise from people and press in the city like be hailed as “one of the most impressing live bands to play on this stage” at the Joiners.
In 2007 the band recorded their second EP 'Why do i still do this everyday?' which was released very fittingly at the bands first appearance at the Barfly in Camden. Since releasing the second record, Sidecar have appeared live on radio and the EP has had a lot of airplay in Southampton and surrounding area’s. ‘Why do I still do this everyday?’ has received praise from reviewers in various music magazines and, from various promoters. The EP reached number 7 in the FOPP records unsigned chart and was included in Saint FM’s ‘best of 2007’ list.
Sidecar 46 will be gigging a lot in the south of England in the coming year, be a part of it!
These shots of the band were taken by Gordon Croft during a live set at the Golden Cross in Coventry 11/3/06
"Daring and enthralling, Sidecar46 smell of good things to come" John Oliver, The Golden Cross
"Listening to the Sidecar 46 E.P. the first thing that struck me were the sweeping guitar riffs and simple yet solid drums with the Gallagher esque vocals. ..r inspection its the bass that really sets the tone, with its smooth heavy rolls fitting nicely with guitars and vocals making the E.P. generally an all round un-offensive listen which is rare in the heavy rock genres of today. Using the wah-wah pedal in an uncompromising homage to the legend of Shaft this band definitely have head banging capability as well as a softer side. Lyrically up to speed they seem to sum up what its like to be a 19 year old living in todays society. If I had to make my own comparisons I would say Placebo were a good place to start although the similarities to Oasis are evident. In all its punchy, heavy without being overbearing and you can definitely move to it" Matt Hollick: 107.1 Rugby FM, Passion 107.9, Diploma graduate- Alchemea school of audio engineering, Islington, London.
"The best unsigned live band we've seen this year" pp fluffer
