Side Stream likes words. It thus has a rather narrow range of interests, though it feels that words open up a whole other world or series of worlds, which Side Stream believes compensates for that.
Television
Side Stream says television is mainly a waste of time and it would prefer to sit down with a bunch of back issues and reminisce over Carolyn McIvor's Escalator poem or one of Renee Liang's Mental Notes.
Books
Side Stream is a book(let) itself, and being rather arrogant and proud of itself and its humble beginnings, Side Stream's favourite book is Side Stream.
Heroes
Side Stream's heroes are poets and poetry. Side Stream recently confessed to secretly liking Plath, Adrienne Rich, Bukowski, William Carlos Williams, O'Hara, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Douglas Wright, Karlo Mila, Tusiata Avia, Vincent O'Sullivan, Will Christie, Helen Rickerby, T.S Eliot, Frank O'Hara, Michael Morrissey, Apirana Taylor,Vivienne Plum, K.A. Phyn,...

Side Stream wants poems and art for Issue 23. Submissions close January 15th! Posted at 3:46 AM Oct 21 view more
Side Stream is a pocket sized, bi-monthly poetry publication created and edited by New Zealand poet Miriam Barr in Auckland. True to NZ's No. 8 Wire philosophy, the 16 page zine is handmade out of one A3 sheet of paper cut and folded into booklet form by a group of volunteers.
Side Stream was started in February 2007 in a bid to provide another avenue for poets to share their work and to make poetry more accessible as an art form. Every two months Side Stream delivers a delectable array of shiny-new poetry, and is distributed for FREE.
Side Stream was initially self-funded by the editor. It is now funded via donations, proceeds from events listings and the odd private sponsor. To make a donation or sponsor an issue please contact the editor.
You can read a review of Side Stream at http://wingedink.blogspot.com.
See blog (just above this) to find out where you can get your copy and to view the submission guidelines.
Please send only your best work. The editor is looking for poetry that is interesting, has something to say and is different in some way as well as cover art. SEE BLOG FOR GUIDELINES - guidelines MUST be followed, so read them carefully.
You can also promote events, your work or yourself in Side Stream, for a small fee. The proceeds from event listings go towards meeting the costs of printing Side Stream.
For further details in any respect you can leave a message here, or for submissions email the editor at sidestreamnz AT gmail DOT com
