SIDEWINDERs first demo was recorded locally in APRIL 2001, and earned them their first gig. In JUNE 2001 SIDEWINDER first played live at Hull Universitys open air festival, the Mega- Gig. They played in the afternoon and then, at the organisers request, again that night. The second gig was played at the New Adelphi Club in Hull on the 3rd JULY, supporting Aqualung. For their third gig they were invited back to the Adelphi where they first headlined on the 21st JULY.
With an exciting, popular live set, all of SIDEWINDERs subsequent gigs have been played as the headline act with the exception of several support slots; SIDEWINDER first supported newly signed Haven, then ex- Stone Roses guitarist Aziz with ex- Smiths members Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke. They have subsequently supported and played to many other artists including Bez, The Yards, Black Night Crash and local close friends The Paddingtons.
SIDEWINDER soon began to play further a field and they now regularly play such venues as the Cavern in Liverpool, Fibbers in York, The Deep End in Sheffield, Night and Day and The late Room in Manchester, the Dublin Castle in London, and several venues in Leeds including The vine and Josephs Wells. They often take up to three coach loads of paying fans eager to pay to see SIDEWINDER play new, exciting music venues as well as maintaining regular gigs on the local scene.
With several live sessions for local and BBC radio, live web broadcasts and a gig to a crowd of 19, 000 at Hull's KC Stadium, SIDEWINDER are continually broadening their experience and fan base.
In 2005, SideWinder were awarded 'Best Track of 2005' by BBC Raw talent Listeners for 'Local Hero'.
SIDEWINDER are a highly productive band with a large, expanding range of material as the band members all write, both separately and as a band. SIDEWINDERs music has the potential to be highly diverse yet maintains a distinctive sound and style.
