Born in 1966, Sidney Hawker began his illustrious career as a mascot for Exeter City. After being expelled from school for “night dribbling” with the Headmaster’s daughter, Sidney studied kazoo at the Stockholm Jazz Institute. It was while busking in Ikea that Sidney met long-term collaborator, Mick The Swede. Wanted for kidnapping his coach Eric's son, ace of bass Mick was hiding in the Swedish underground.
Sidney convinced Mick to move with him to London’s “Sven Sisters” and in 1990 they formed a freestyle jazz trio, Final Tap, with keyboardist, Bob E Moore. It was in the nineties that Sidney would hone his skills, working as a bus conductor on the route master by day, and playing kazoo in the underground by night. There followed a stream of critically acclaimed albums and singles; The dark side of the kazoo, “Kazoos, thousands of ‘em!” and Wherever I lay my kazoo, to name but a few. But by the end of the 90's when Sidney tried to fuse Kazoo and Rap, he was pigeonholed as K'rap and his popularity rapidly declined, and by the turn of the millennium, Sidney and his motley crew were stone broke.
Then, on a crisp Sunday in 2006, a silver sunbeam glimmered through the rear window of Sidney’s bus. A voice told him his destiny was to tour Germany on the magical Routemaster 66 bus, and seek eternal glory through the power of Weetabix.
A revitalized Sidney Hawker recruited guitarist, Bob E Dazzler, and with Mick the Swede and Bob E Moore formed the Hurricanes. Their tribute, Route 66, has been hailed as the best England World Cup Song ever. Indeed, the Archbishop of Canterbury stated in a press release that Route 66 was “Better than the Bible”, whilst President Bush commented "It even beats having a war",Osama Bin Laden agreed, "It had me rocking in my cave". It seems the road to success is 66.
