Leon Trotsky* once said: 'before things get better, they get worse - and our job is to make it worse faster'. Siegelhead have decided to take this mission in the context of Berlin's music and clubbing scene.
As legend goes, it was Atari Teenage Riot who welded punk with rave to put Berlin on the map again in the 90's. One of the bands to come out of the DHR movement was Cobra Killer, who, with their emphasis on dirty garage beats and dirty live shows, inspired a Canadian schoolteacher called Merrill Nisker to rename herself Peaches and throw Berlin into the next level - electroclash.
Another 5 years have passed and all the young (and old) soul rebels are scratching their heads and asking themselves, where next? From politics and noise to sex and grooves, from The Destroyer to the Fatherfucker, what is Siegelhead's statement? As usual in every military organisation, the answer is divided to a 3-point strategy:
TO TAKE ELECTROCLASH TO ITS EXTREME LOGICAL CONCLUSION AND BY THAT NEGATING IT AND CREATING THE OPENING FOR A NEW MOVEMENT
TO MAKE RETRO REGRET AND REPENT
TO TRANSGRESS TRANSGRESSION BY INSULTING PERVERSION
One of Siegelhead's proposed earlier monikers was Cheaper Trick. Not only an initial hint of Siegelhead's deep respect to the 70's which goes beyond retro and reaches religion (more on that in future communiqués), but a statement of intent and a threat to be cheap and stupid enough to create a cultural explosion akin to the meeting of matter and anti-matter, or more precisely, matter and something else which doesn't matter. Hmm.
By that we do not mean silly as in slapstick but a conceptual approach to music making based on professionally re-building lo-fi versions of ultra-produced hits in order to demonstrate the underlying dramatic power even when stripped bare, and by that bring electroclash to a dead end.
The choice of the name Siegelhead is based on a desire to focus our propaganda on the Berlin scene, and Germany at large. The tribute to legendary disco producer Ralph Siegel is clear and it is not cynical in any way. The further tribute to Siegel's biggest concurrent, Frank Farian, is brought to a massive conceptual head in the song 'Ralph Farian' which mixes Farian's and Siegel's takes on the primitivist, wild and occult allures of Russia into a pop-cultural popping fuse which nullifies history. Retro loses its meaning when it refers to Mongolians. More on this song and the song 'Quantum Jump' in Communiqué ..2
Lastly, Siegelhead will be the last people to complain against the feminine dominance apparent in electroclash. However, in order to pre-empt a reactionary wave of low-IQ clubbers who forgot that dressing up as Texan truck drivers is in fact a tribute to Thelma and Louise, Siegelhead feel a duty to further confuse the scene's sexuality with BEARDED MEN IN DENIM JACKETS AND DRESSES. Peaches' multi-genderism is only the first step. Siegelhead exchange Love In A Void to sex in a void, stating that beards are meant to attract lesbians, dresses to attract heteros, and guns, big bucks and fast cars to attract gays. CHAOS IS FEMININE.
Siegelhead are no trendy provocateurs. Siegelhead operate by the book - and that book is the TORCH HERESY ALMANAC. The Almanac outlines the meanings of all musical modes and portrays each mode's cosmic archetypal role and concrete material resonance. More about the Almanac will only be revealed in Communiqué ..4
