Born, raised, and educated in Oakland, California by two ex-hippie parents and two stepparents, Sierra is a California Girl through and through...without the peroxide. Between days filled with Judy Garland and Gene Kelly musicals, she also learned to appreciate the wilds of nature by going fishing and camping. She traveled with the Piedmont Boys and Girls Choir to sing in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod competition in Wales and became the star of multiple productions at Bishop O’Dowd High School, including roles as Dolly Levi in “Hello, Dolly!”, Mama Rose in “Gypsy”, and Eva Peron in “Evita”. Her father played the role of Stage Dad and took a lot of pictures.
Sierra moved to Los Angeles and gradutated with a BA in Theater at UCLA, magna cum laude. She was an active member in the student-run group Awaken A Cappella for three years, during which the group recorded the album “Co-ed Naked Singing” (she can be heard as the soloist on their popular version of “Bohemian Rhapsody.”) While at UCLA, she was in numerous on and off-campus musicals, including “Once Upon A Mattress,” (directed by Carol Burnett), “Falsettos”, and as her favorite role of The Witch in "Into the Woods." She also directed two shows ("Assassins" and "The Little Shop of Horrors").
Since UCLA, Sierra has been seen on stages around the Los Angeles area, including shows for Reprise!, The Fullerton Civic Light Opera (Nimue in “Camelot” and Sister Sophia in “The Sound of Music”), as Nadia in the popular "bare: a pop opera" at the Hudson Theater, as the Second Soprano in the critically acclaimed "Master Class" at the Odyssey Theater, “The Night of the Black Cat” at Edgemar Center for the Performing Arts, “Urinetown” and “Anyone Can Whistle” at the Matrix Theater, and for three years in a row played Ellen Beach Yaw (and others) in the Los Angeles cult Christmastime show “A Mulholland Christmas Carol” at the Theater of NOTE. In 2007, she sang at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.
She was also seen performing in the musical Cabaret duo DeMars and Rein with Matthew DeMars at Sterling’s Upstairs. Recordings include lead roles in the original concept albums of “Lilith: A Rock Opera” (Lilith), “Great Expectations” (Young Miss Havisham), “Runway 69” (Devorah), and "Divorce! The Musical" (Laureen Grub/Therapist/Woman 2). In June of 2007, Sierra took over the Son of Semele Ensemble theater with two nights of solo song work in her very own Cabaret show "Ridin' High," directed by Calvin Remsberg.
Sierra's next plans are to record a CD of her Cabaret music and to take New York by storm.
Sierra has studied acting and on camera auditioning techniques at the Beverly Hills Playhouse under the instruction of Al Mancini, Richard Lawson, and Gary Imhoff. She takes private vocal lessons with Broadway alum Calvin Remsberg. She lives with her husband Pete Nicholls and her other furry loves, Ecks and Zaphod the cats.
