"Sierra is a strong young talent bursting onto the folk scene. Listen to this woman; she is a
sage and utterly her own person. Her guitar style will dazzle you as her voice soothes and
inspires." -- Nerissa Nields, The Nields
"Sierra's music is seductively dark, guiding the listener through intense layers of emotion and
thought. Her rich alto delivers poetic, yet forthright lyrics set to expressive guitar work."
-- Theresa Condito
"There are players out there and there are artists... Sierra is an artist. She has so much raw
talent and feel. These are things that cant truly be taught, you either have it or you dont. I've
worked with some of the top people in the industry, including U2, Madonna, Earth Wind and
Fire, and many others, and feel like I know real talent when I hear it. "
-- Mike
McKnight
Sierra's music is brutally humanistic, a microcosm of folk. Resonating with natural, cathartic insight, her lyrics transcend politics to grapple with the emotional, individual experience of living in a down-right vexing world.
From Producer Hendrik David Gideonse XIX:
I first saw Sierra perform when I was engineering for a small venue in Arlington, MA. When she walked in for sound check, her smiles and light laughter lit up that dark room. She played through “The Rock Song,” and the song was filled with images of stone, flesh and faces. Later that night, during her performance, everyone in that room fell in love with Sierra. She conjured up an intimacy so personal that her songs and stories tasted like pillow talk instead of a public performance.
Sierra grew up in the rural Connecticut town of Thomaston, nurtured by the music of James Taylor, the sounds of the natural world and the gift of an acoustic guitar from her father. Her brother, also a musician, inspired her both in life as a performer, and with his death, when he was violently killed by a drunk driver in 1996. For Sierra, playing music is a way of cradling the memory of her brother and a way of connecting with her deepest emotions. Even in the shadows of her darkest topics, there lurks a glimmer of pure optimism and faith in the ability of regular people to reinvent themselves.
Sierra’s beauty shows in the careful way she touches her guitar strings, like a spider perfecting her web. There is a sensuous grace with which she sings, that mesmerizes listeners and creates a hushed calm. It is no wonder that the likes of Catie Curtis, Rachael Davis and Natalia Zukerman blessed Sierra’s new record with their talents. It is no wonder that she was joined by Woody Giessmann (The Del Fuegos, Laurie Geltman) on percussion, lloyd Thayer on dobro, and Dana Price playing fiery violin. Sierra has performed throughout New England and up and down the West Coast.
