Siggy is an independent rock band from Los Angeles, California.
We play raw, passionate music in the vein of Television, The Velvet Underground and The White Stripes. The Absinthe Effect was recorded in collaboration with producer Dave Trumfio (American Music Club, Wilco, Jesus and Mary Chain). “Siggy is Bowie with a set of balls,” Trumfio muttered during a 12-hour mixing session. With its existential themes, sweeping melodies, dynamic rhythm and intermittent cello accompaniment, Absinthe is our most polished yet vital release to date.
The Absinthe Effect was released in May to an energetic house at The EchoPlex at a show featuring Earlimart and Light FM. The show was videotaped by Leah McKissock and Scott Roth who are working on some cuts to be released soon. You can also click here to read a review from Losanjealous and one here from West Coast Performer. Siggy does music for the shear pleasure of the experience and this was a hell of an experience. Thanks to everyone who came out!
While music is an increasing focus for Siggy, we live nuanced, disparate lives. Within this four-piece you’ll find eight master’s degrees, three PhD’s and an absurd number of scholarly publications. We attack our day jobs as fervently as our music: Siggy is comprised of a neuropsychologist, an expert on marginalized youth, a behavioral scientist/executive for an Internet relationship site, and an analytic psychotherapist. Lead singer Galen Buckwalter, physically disabled since 16, stars in the award-winning PBS documentary Rolling, aggressively taking on the medical establishment from the New England Journal to NPR.
Our first music video is also available on YouTube (click above). Freud’s couch and rock and roll meet up with a brilliant young Director, Leah McKissock and the result will perplex shrinks for decades to come.
Bloody men are like bloody buses You wait for about a year And as soon as one approaches your stop Two or three others appear.
You look at them flashing their indicators, Offering you a ride. You're trying to read the destinations, You haven't much time to decide.
If you make a mistake, there is no turning back. Jump off, and you'll stand there and gaze While the cars and the taxis and lorries go by And the minutes, the hours, the days.

Hey hey hey, I'm about to trundle to London, loaded up with all manner of instruments of musical torture ... instruments which in competent hands could produce aural delight, tickle the senses, and induce profound emotional responses, but not in mine. It's an exciting time. No stuents. Some very promising signings at Dens along with some encouraging pre-season performances. The bright lights of South London (ahem). Ukulele goodness & guitar madness. It actually feels pretty good to be alive, the fog is lifting. I hope you enjoyed/are enjoying your hols. Keep on keeping on.
well, actually, i was named for sigourney weaver, but siggy [ziggy] was part deux :)
and yeah, the man was a big deal. i learned about him in ap european history this past school year. he figured out that the mind is divided into three parts: the id, the superego, and the ego, which balances them out and what not.
ps: i guess we would be eponymous in some way or another because we are both named, or in my case nicknamed, after two famous siggys (or ziggy, for me). hmm..makes you think.
i am thriving, actually. i'm almost done getting the minimum amount of seventy-five community service hours, so that's really awesome since i'll be done before my junior year. hooray for sign language!
and i actually got "siggy" from my dad. see, he's, well was, jamaican and there's a reggae artist named ziggy marley, so i guess he just mooched it off of him. plus, it's short for sigourney, so bonus points! :)
oh, i'm planning on getting "interpretation of dreams", but i'm wondering if i really should. i mean, i want to major in psychology, so i figure it'd be a good idea. ?
Yes Galen the Hootenanny was a blowout of mind and body. Haven't seen or heard the footage yet, but we sure got all of it. It was a very spirited affair with much drinking and it was very very loud. I'm remembering more of it each day that passes, but not much. It was a blast. I should be getting the footage soon and will let you know when I post it. It'll probably be more funny than good, but you know how gigs go....one amp blew up, the PA sucked and tuning? Oh, boy.....
