Want to take part in making Rio Grande Valley history?
The first Valley International Poetry Festival will take place April 24, 2008- April 27, 2008.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help sell T-shirts, anthologies, welcome and sit guests at poetry readings and other events during these four days. It is great resume experience…besides, you get the chance to interact with poets from inside and outside the valley!
To volunteer or if you want more information on volunteering or about the VIPF, reply to this bulletin or contact me, Nayelly, at nyyjba at yahoo dot com.

If you're on the MFA listserve you might have received this announcement (below) already. But here it is again just in case--it describes the MFA info. meeting we started planning in class. The first hour (6-7pm) we will discuss MFA programs beyond this area. How to apply to MFA programs, teaching assistantships, your writing sample, etc. Please bring your questions, and we should also discuss potential resistance from family members if you'd like to leave the area for graduate school. Would be great if we had some snacks for the event--if you'd like to bring something, please, please do, and muchisimas gracias in advance. I'll bring something too.
The second hour (7-8pm) we will discus UTPA's MFA program. Feel free to come to one hour or both, depending on your interests. Hope you can make it. Dr. Braithwaite's email below.

email from Dr. Braithewaite:
Dear creative-writing fans:
As you know, this semester (fall 2007) UTPA launched its new MFA Creative Writing Program, with students enrolling to study Fiction, Poetry, Creative Nonfiction, and Literary Translation.
Within the next few years, we expect steady growth in the program as we add new students, faculty, and classes. We hope, for instance, to begin offering coursework in drama.
Many creative-writing programs solicit admissions only once a year, in the fall, and this will probably be true of ours in future years as well. However, right now, in our most intense growth phase, we are encouraging spring admissions as well.
For more information, please attend our MFA Information Session on Friday October 12. From 6-7 p.m., we will discuss graduate creative writing in general, and from 7-8 p.m., UTPA's MFA program in particular.
Profs Emmy Perez and Jean Braithwaite will be on hand to answer questions, and so will
