The Marie Lloyd Bar is on the corner of the Hackney Empire.
This is where we run our night. It’s free entry and there’s a late bar. It’s EVERY WEDNESDAY and we try and make it fun. We normally put on about 5 acts and stagger on till the early hours. The best nights are the ones where we have a few BANDS, a couple of singer-songwriter types, an old man on the bagpipes. . . and a german stripper. But the main thing is the music's GOOD and interesting. It’s basically a showcase for upcoming musicians and performers. People DO talk at the bar, cos this isn’t a super-earnest “isnt everyone wonderful so shut the fuck up” kind of night. Its more of a “play your songs - the sound man's good so it sounds ace - and have fun” kinda night. We want people to come and drink and have a good time and hear stuff they wouldn’t hear anywhere else. We think. Anyway, come to one of our nights and play your songs. If you have a myspace page we'll listen to your stuff and take it from there, otherwise send cds to Lew c/o The Marie Lloyd Bar, Hackney Empire, 291 Mare st. London, E8 1EJ
Hiya Lew! Just wanted to let you know that my new album "Letting Go" is now released I really enjoyed playing at Signed Unsigned and look forward to coming back to play again in the future. God Bless, Tim.
On the 14th of June 2009 at the Hackney Empire, my first play "The Sea at Night" will be performed at 4pm and 8pm. (Thanks to Hackney Empire and Angle Theater!)
Taken from our debut album, "I Smell Burning", we need you to help us take this slab of cynically bitter alternative disco to number 1 on the Tourdates download chart! Much Hot Beds love, Hannah B & Andy quirk
