Id Lab contains the word 'id', as in subconscious mind, not 'I.D.' for identity. Silev is a spondee, pronounced like the first syllables of the words 'silent levitation'. Silab, therefore, is pronounced like the first syllables of the words 'silent labrador'.
About the Music:
Id Lab is my solo electronica project, involving a lot of found sounds, glitches and software manipulation. It's been going, very slowly, since 1999. MuTech7 is the oldest surviving Id Lab track, from that year, and was lovingly remastered from cassette for the 2005 album The Monster Path. It's named after a MIDI system exclusive command that muted channel 7. Silev is an attempt to to something different, mainly guitar-based, mainly live, and using no editing that couldn't be done with tape and a scalpel. Although the Drone has always been present in Id Lab, it's central to Silev; there's not much recorded, but I can promise you some radical and extremely heavy sounds in the coming months. I've been a member of The Cube Orchestra since it started in December 2004, and we've produced some wonderful sounds on occasion. The untitled piece currently on the music player is a recording (made by Marcus) of one of our rehearsals, and it's entirely improvised. I'm playing electric guitar in this instance. The Orchestra's recordings are released under a Creative Commons licence, so you may distribute, remix and sample them under certain conditions. Sculpture is an offshoot of the Cube Orchestra, a four-strong punk-funk-skronk-jazz improv outfit. I play bass.
Mustard Allegro is a new venture. Conceived as a surf band, it's developed in a more math-rock direction.
