About me:

John M. Starino is best described in the words of Otis Taylor of The State Newspaper [April 3, 2009], "John Starino, poet better known as SilDag, does as much as anyone in town, (Columbia, SC), to promote art." He embraces the elements of three P's. He is a Poet, Photographer and Producer. He competed with the 2005 and 2006 Upstate Slam Team of Greenville, SC. His Photographic expertise ranges from Art Shows with "A Study in Texture" to live action covering Poetry, Musical Events and Roller Derby. For three years he emceed his Phoenix Tongue Open Mic, which was a mainstay for many Poets to read, perform, and develop their craft at The Red Tub in West Columbia, SC. On April 4, 2009 he produced a Concert Fundraiser for the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Columbia, which fused Poetry, Music, Dance and Art. On September 15, 2009 he in association with Verseworks produced and emceed a Phoenix Tongue Reunion Event entitled "The Virgo Monologues" with featured artists, Heather Dearmon, Due East, and Abyss at Art Bar. During the night about 30 participants performed within the Open Mic. "if a picture is worth a thousand words akin to a poem, can it be said without a time penalty?" j. m. starino
