“We try and write about what’s currently happening in our lives,” explains lead singer Joe La. “As a band, we feel our music is at its best when it revolves around subject matter that is fresh on our minds. No filters, no mercy, just the truth.”
It’s this kind of honest and unrelenting approach that is making rock rebels Silence Betrayed a hit with both fans and critics alike. Forming in 2006 on the outskirts of San Diego, the band spent its formative years perfecting their sound and touring the southwestern U.S. in pursuit of a loyal following. Throughout that period, their tone evolved into a brutal yet melodic juggernaut. By mixing heavy grooves with unique and aggressive vocal arrangements, they've been able to create a musical intensity reminiscent of Mudvayne, Avenged Sevenfold, and Deftones. Now, almost four years into the project, bassist and founder Mikey C. feels that the group's 2010 EP release 'Articles of Clara' is their most dynamic offering yet...
“Silence Betrayed has always experimented with unique melodies, blending bright harmonies with intense vocal leads,” he proclaims. “As our chemistry grew on stage, so did our writing in the studio. When we perform live you can see how these new songs really showcase Joe’s lyrical complexity and his ability to command an audience.”
All of this hard work, they say, is part of their vision: Delivering songs to the masses that are authentic, memorable, and explosive. By remaining steadfast with this concept, they've been able to attract sponsors like Dirtbag Clothing, which outfits some of metal’s biggest names. Just last year, their song 'Contain' was the featured theme for TNA Wrestling’s summer pay-per-view event Victory Road.
The live show is the must-see aspect of this band though, and through diligent touring they've birthed fan bases in greater Los Angeles, Arizona, Las Vegas, Reno, Palm Springs, Orange County, and of course their hometown San Diego. The group has also booked with some of today's hottest rock acts, including Adema, Dope, Kittie, Throwdown, and Soil. According to their frontman, that progress isn't quite enough...
"People need to hear these songs," the singer states. "We’re confident in what this band brings to the market, both visually and audibly, so we're not going to stop until everyone in the country knows who the fuck we are. Then, if we have time, we'll take over the world."
These aspirations seem ambitious, yes, but they are warranted as 2010 promises to be the best year yet for this grunge/metal outfit. With a powerful new release to rally around, it's hard to imagine Silence Betrayed as a regional act for very much longer. Fans should know that the band plans to tour through the end of the year, continuing their quest to infiltrate the ears of rock listeners all across the U.S. So if you happen to make it out to a show, there’s no need to be shy. These dirtbags may look rough, but they truly want nothing more than to have a drink and talk music with you. No filters, no mercy, just the truth. Now who wants a shot?
