SILENTES was born in 2004 from the ashes of AMPLEXUS, the famous italian cult label that has promoted Ambient music since 1994, giving room to many international artist like Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Michael Stearns, Vidna Obmana, Mathias Grassow, Amir Baghiri, Klaus Wiese, Aube - just to name a few – without forgetting about italian acts like Alio Die, Amon, Oöphoi and Nimh.
SILENTES was created by the urgency of a deep and significative change that could cope with the considerable evolution happened to the Ambient / Electronic / Experimental scene during the most recent years.
SILENTES is a new label and a new experience, not just another sublabel. It inherits from AMPLEXUS the original pioneering spirit, and widens its horizons looking forward with renewed energy to a new kind of music, a music that – while keeping a “deep” profile – definitively transcends every stylistic barriers opening the door to the most innovative and affected forms of sonic contamination, proposing a variegated catalogue of artists who are active in different contexts and very distant from each other.
On SILENTES we find a few musicians who previously had some releases on AMPLEXUS: Rod Modell, Michael Mantra, Aube, Amir Baghiri with its newest and eclectic Seele project, Alio Die with a new edition of his CD “Suspended Feathers”, originally released in 1996, Nimh both in solo mode and along with the well-known italian “de-composer” Maurizio Bianchi/M.B. on the magnificent “Together’s Symphony” box-set.
We also find new entries like Opium and Subinterior, both from Italy, Katzo from Japan and many collaborative projects such as Seamus (Amir Baghiri and Stefano Gentile), Waveform Transmission (Rod Modell and Chris Troy), Ontayso (Koen Lybaert and Esther Santoyo), Rod Modell and Kevin Hanton, and other atypical collaborative experiences such as the suggestive “reworks” created by Aube using original music by Maurizio Bianchi, Stefano Gentile and Nimh.
Other highlights from the catalogue include editions of historic material like Maurizio Bianchi and Frequency in Cycles per Second’s "Chaotishe Fraktale" and "Letzte Technologie" – released as a double CD -, "Cerulean Transmission" by Michael Mantra and the prematurely departed Charlz De La Casa, and "Altering the Air" by Global Systems Silently Moving.

Here's an unmissable and collectable 150 copies limited edition CD album, released to celebrate our fifth year of activities and available only as a free "bonus" included in the "bag" that contains the latest 13 Silentes releases. Born from an idea by Stefano Gentile, who also actively participated to the making of the album, the Maribor project brings together for the first time in a collaborative CD some of the most remarkable names of the Italian experimental and avantagarde scene: Maurizio Bianchi (M.B.), Pierpaolo Zoppo (Mauthausen Orchestra), Andrea Marutti (Amon, Never Known) and Giuseppe Verticchio (Nimh). Elaborating and mixing basic materials provided by the other participants, and integrating it with his own sounds, Nimh has composed more than fifty minutes of extraordinary music that includes the more extreme, "sharp" and noise-oriented sonic elements of Mauthausen Orchestra, the more oniric, deep and suggestive atmospheres typical of the best Maurizio Bianchi productions, the dark-ambient and obscure sonorities that always characterized most of the releases signed by Andrea Marutti, the richness of the highly dynamic and well-constructed stratifications typical of the ecleptic experimental visions of Nimh, and the openings of "light" suggested by the evocative melodic guitar-based fragments offered by Stefano Gentile. Second “chapter” in the “Hall of Mirrors” saga, a project that hides the fervid minds of Giuseppe Verticchio/Nimh and Andrea Marutti/Amon. On this release they’re supported by Andrea Freschi (Subinterior, Konau...) and Andrea Ferraris (Ur, Sil Muir...), who gave their contribute with additional sound sources. Another long and fascinating journey among the ruins of lost and ancient civilizations, among desolate landscapes forgotten by time... ROD MODELL : PLAYS MICHAEL MANTRA (SILENTES CD 200720)
"Plays Michael Mantra" is an atmospheric project by Rod Modell (deepchord / echospace) consisting of two 30-minute long tracks. Here Modell portrays the feelings and sensations that he was experiencing on a recent late-night train ride, where he was listening to "a/b" by Michael Mantra on headphones, and was fascinated with the way a/b blended with the sounds of the trip. On "Plays Michael Mantra" Modell created soundscapes that are reminiscent of that night, and then had Mantra's a/b playing in the background (as it was on the train). Made from delicate chime sequences, synth tones, space-echoes, and recordings of distant trains passing through the night. The overal effect is somewhat melancholy, but very soothing and familiar, like sleeping on a rainy night. Epic and majestic ambient sounds that twinkle like stars in the night sky. Extraordinary for late-night listening.
NOSESOUL : ETHIK BLUES / WINTERBIRDS HELPED THE PASSENGERS (SILENTES CD+DVD 200719)
A fascinating album of ambient music that straddles the worlds of comfortable quite sounds (that continually morph and expand)... and darker more introspective tones (that arouse a more turbulant and mysterious character). Atmospherics for nightfall. Large enveloping soundscapes that completely overtake the senses. Similar (in some ways) to the unmistakable style of OPIUM. Quinto Sol was the brainchild of Faith & Disease keyboardist, the late Joaquin Tavares (d. 2006). Joaquin and co-founder Alfredo Feregrino sculpted a very brilliant "pre-Hispanic" ritual project that incorporated complex Mayan and Ancient symbolism woven into a percussive, dirge-like soundscapes. Tracks are culled from the studio and a "Day Of The Dead" live performance at the Seattle Art Museum. "Ollintonatiuh" also includes performances from F&D's Dara Rosenwasser, Eric Cooley and Joshua Furman while members of Quinto Sol. Bonus tracks include an alternate mix of the Tavares composition "Wallow" from F&D's CD Fortune His Sleep.
