1991年美大で出会ったメンバーとSILENT POETSを結成。
1992年FILE RECORDSより1stアルバム「6 pieces "sense at this moment"」でデビュー。
翌年トイズファクトリーより「Potential Meeting」をリリース。現在までに通算6枚のオリジナル・アルバムと7枚のリミックス・アルバムやミニ・アルバムなどをリリース。海外からの評価も高く、多くの音楽誌やファッション誌に紹介され、「Cafe Del Mar」をはじめ、アメリカ、イギリス、フランス、ドイツ、イタリアなどで30作品を超えるコンピレーション・アルバムに楽曲が収録される。 2000年にはパリのレーベル Yellow Productionsよりアルバム「TO COME...」がリリースされ、2001年にはアメリカのアトランティックより全米リリースされる。同年夏、下田のソロ・ユニットとなる。

その間、ISSEY MIYAKEのパリ・コレクションの音楽の担当や他アーティストのプロデュース、リミックス、BEAMSの25周年プロジェクト「Hotel id+」のサウンドトラックなども制作。また浅野忠信初監督のショート・ムービー「トーリ」にも楽曲を提供している。

そして、2005年11月30日、６年振りとなる最新アルバム「SUN」がリリースされ大きな話題となる。「SUN」では、元Yellow Productions、現在poussez! のDJ Yellowを共同プロデューサーに迎え、エバートン・ネルソン、ショーン・リーが参加。同アルバムは2006年5月にフランスのpoussez!よりリリース。アメリカ、イギリス、ドイツなど世界10カ国以上で発売された。

今年、2007年3月には活動15周年を記念したベスト盤 「Silent Poets Ultimet Collection　"Sound Of Silence"」のVol.1、Vol.2の二枚がDVD付きでリリースされた。

Shimoda formed Silent Poets in 1991 with friends he met at art school in Tokyo.
Their debut album "6 pieces 'sense at this moment'" was released from FILERECORDS in 1992.
In the following year, Silent Poets became a duo comprised of Michiharu Shimoda and Takahiro Haruno, and released "Potential Meeting" from Toy's Factory. Silent Poets has released six original albums and seven remix albums/EPs until now. Gaining international recognition, Silent Poets has been featured in countless music/fashion magazines, and in over 30 compilations around the world ranging from the USA, UK, France, Germany, and Italy, including the well known "Cafe Del Mar" compilation.

In 2000, the album "TO COME..." was released from Yellow Productions in France, and was also released in the U.S. in 2001 from Atlantic. In the summer of the same year, Haruno left the group and Silent Poets became Shimoda's solo project.

During that time, Shimoda composed the music for Issey Miyake's Paris collections, remixed countless artists, and produced tracks for the BEAMS 25th anniversary project "Hotel id+". He has also contributed a track to Tadanobu Asano's first short film "Tori".

On November 30, 2005, Shimoda's latest full length "Sun" was relased after a 6 year hiatus. The album featured DJ Yellow from poussez! (formerly from Yellow Productions) as co-producer, string arranger Everton Nelson, and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Shawn Lee. The album was released in France on May of 2006, and in the US, UK, and Germany to critical acclaim.

In March of 2007, the 15th anniversary best hits albums "Silent Poets Ultimet Collection 'Sound Of Silence'" Vol. 1 and Vol.2 were released which included DVD's.

また、音楽活動と同時にグラフィック・デザイナーとしても活動中。SILENT POETSのジャケットはもちろん、他のアーティストのジャケットや音楽以外のグラフィックも多数手掛け、ファッション・ブランドSOPHNET.や F.C.R.B.のロゴ・マークをはじめ同ブランドのグラフフィック・デザインも担当。 さらにLITTLE TEMPOのSEIJI "BIG BIRD"とMINTOSという音楽とグラフィックのユニットを結成。DJ、デザイン、音楽制作とさらに幅広い活動を展開中。MINTOSとしては総合格闘技"PRIDE"のT-シャツ、ポスターなどのデザインを手掛け、日本科学未来館にて開催された「時間旅行展」にもインスタレーション作品を出品。また初の個展FUNCORE2003を東京、京都、新潟で開催した。

Besides his work as a musician, Shimoda is also an established graphic designer. He has designed the covers for the Silent Poets records and many other musicians. He does design work outside of the music scene, and also does graphic work for fashion brands such as SOPH. and F.C.R.B. He formed a music and graphic design unit called MINTOS with SEIJI "BIG BIRD" of LITTLE TEMPO. With these various projects, Shimoda is always broadening his scope as a DJ, designer, and music producer. MINTOS has designed T-shirts and posters for the Mixed Martial Arts organization "PRIDE". They have also exhibited installation pieces at the National Museum Of Emerging Science and Innovation's "Time Travel Exhibition". MINTOS' first solo exhibition FUNCORE2003 was held in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Niigata.
