Her heartbeat gave her away—too fast, too erratic, too telling. Fear. She was coated in it.

Kerr Vik scanned the dark tavern, searching for the source of the emotions he sensed… felt.

His gaze shot to the others. Marina, the Jager leader, placed one fingertip to her temple and closed her eyes. With a frown, she dropped her hand and raised her eyelids. "I know this is the place. I've sensed magic here before."
She spun; the gold threads sewn through her tunic caught in the light adding an ethereal quality to her movements as she leaped in front of the tavern's owner and placed the sharp tip of a dagger against his throat. "You say there are no witches here?" she asked.
The owner, a sturdy man with dark hair and a steady gaze, stared straight ahead. "You said yourself, there was no power coming from my tavern. Perhaps a witch was here and left. People don't tend to stay too long."
Kerr stepped over a bench on his way to the back of the room. The fear was growing. It wrapped around him like a noose and tugged him deeper into the room, past the tavern owner and Marina.
The Jager leader ignored him, but the man she had pinned jerked. "There is nothing in there for you."
Kerr stopped, his hand resting on the top of an iron-bound ale barrel. He heard a gasp and felt the fear begin to pulse from inside the cask. He had found her.
A twenty-story skyscraper jutted up from downtown Minneapolis, three blocks from the bustling City Center mall. The blue-windowed steel spire was nestled between a white stucco building and a multilevel parking ramp.
This was where he'd followed the limo that had picked up the familiar. He spied only a flash of green dress as she stepped out from the limo's backseat and took the hand of a beefy bouncer to be led inside.
Green. Max loved when women adorned themselves with green. It reminded him of wild French meadows and freedom. Few could wear the color as well as this woman.
And if she wore spike heels and had bright, sexy eyes, then he was a goner.
Rare was the woman who could truly leave Maximilien Fitzroy speechless.

Hey. I just read a horror book that was pretty darn good for a first book. THE WOLFMAN by Nicholas Pekearo. The style throws you off at first, than you realise it's gritty old school. Like the first werewolf stories.
I think it would make a helluva guy flick if they kept it true to the voice of the author, right from the get go. Sadly, the author was a volunteer NY cop who was gunned down along with his partner. Far as I know, this was his only completed work, and this guy had a true talent. What a waste.
If you know any guys who are looking for a good old school werewolf story,and i do mean OLD SCHOOL this is their book. A hero who isn't heroic, but scarily realistic in his choices.
I have no idea why I picked it up. It' not what I read at all (no HEA porn in it, lol). It just drew me, and then I got sucked in.
