   About Silly Pillows Jonathan
SILLY PIANO PILLOWS [Jonathan Caws-Elwitt and Charlie Zayleskie] will be appearing at POPFEST! NEW ENGLAND, at 9pm on Sat. Nov. 10, 2007!

Hi! I'm Jonathan from the Silly Pillows, and this page has a few of my solo recordings. Just a couple of notes about these tracks: (1) Our friend Kitrina did some backing vocals on "Clarity". (2) "Come in the Evening" can also be heard on the Happy Happy Birthday to Me Volume 3 compilation CD.

Meanwhile, there is a separate page on this site for the Original Silly Pillows--i.e. me and my wife Hilary. We were the original lineup, until Hilary decided she didn't want to participate in the music anymore. But recently she's had a re-awakened interest in singing, and we've begun recording as a duo again! You'll find us at the Original Silly Pillows MySpace page.

Hilary and I also have a techno side-project called Deco Pillow, which is represented at the Deco Pillow MySpace page.

An extensive website devoted to the history of The Silly Pillows--including more downloads--can be found here.

If you like prehistory, checkout the Degrads MySpace page.

And if you'd like to make a sideways leap from my music to my humor writing (essays, stage farces, one-liners, and miscellaneous tomfoolery), visit Monkeys 1, Typewriters 0.

Check out some of the comments about your music videos on YouTube. :) Someone I know was watching them last night. This person showed me the Degrads video, when you had that punk edge.
You guys ROCKED!

Hi Jonathan! My kids talked me into this MySpace thingie. It has been fun so far. Hey, leave a comment on my page! I need comments! :) My page is still in construction; I copied the code from one of those MySpace layout template pages, but I'm not happy with the current look, so it will be going through many transformations in the next few days....weeks.... months.... especially if Ms. Em helps as promised.

See you around! Miss you guys. We've got to reschedule our plans for your visit (maybe early spring?).

just saying hello to you and Hilary. That east side store has no more of those nice little provence olives, they have a replacement called the nicoise which is ok but no where as good as the other. ah my goodness, problems with olives .....

Oh wow Jonathan,
weird how recently you asked me what olives I like.
Now look. Much of Kalamata has burned down.
Did you know that olive trees can take thirty years to produce their lovely little morsels?
I hope some trees still exist in other parts of Greece. Gosh there must be.
Of course we can buy from other countries but it is just not the same.
You hang on to that cap and bright blue jacket which reminds me of the Aegean, which is/will always be there.
Say hi to Hilary and you both have a great day!
Ζ

Aug 21 2007 9:42 AM

my favori olive right now is the 'kalamata" and the tiny and delicate "provence" which if I have the time, we find at Eli Zabar's on the east side. A little pricier than the "kalamata" but quite delicious.

That looks like an authentic Greek Fisherman's cap. The kind every captain wears. You wear it well dear Jonathan. Very distinguished. You know? Captains in Sparta take their boats out for the day. They leave early in the morning and return later with pride after a long day's work. They go to Gythion and sit down at the tables by the water and order Ouzo and roasted Octopus that has been prepared just right, tender, in fragrant olive oil and red wine vinegar. They eat some beautiful olives and dip fresh warm toasted bread into the oil that has oregano from Taygetus mountain sprinkled on it. Can you smell the fresh scent of the ocean all around? See the deep blue color of the sea? I don't kow if they finish things off with a Necafe/Ouzo frappe or some Retsina but the captain is sure to rub his belly in contentment.

I think I am watching too much Greek satellite tv and really long for the place that I have never seen up close and in person but you with your handsome cap and lovely blue jacket (color of the Aegean) brought me into thoughts of Greece.
I pray for the fires and floods to cease there. I also hope the all of a sudden elections the right wing party just called for turn out ok as the right and the socialists are at each other's throats on the tv as we speak, ranting and raving and disrupting the calm and beauty of the blue sea.

Hi dear Jon and Hilary,
Don't you worry, yes of course everyone has a ceramic jack-'o-lantern full of suglasses someplace in their house, and if they don't dear Jon, well, then they must be weird he he just kidding .....
They weren't very practical indeed and I agree they were a Jim McGuinn look. Lennon was an altogether different shape of shades.
I still think all of your pics and all of your music are very sweet and very cool. How about that temperature drop yesterday? It was 58 here and felt like 54. Yikes.
Best to you and Hilary.

Dear Jonathan,

Thanks! We've met before-I was in a 2004 production of "Surely, you Jest!"
I love Archie books. I still read and buy them. I can't explain my addiction to them. I think it has to do with escaping reality.
