Most pop music these days has become stagnant. It lacks substance, most of it all sounds alike, but thats the mainstream for you, its part of selling out.
When it comes to sampling it can vary. I might sample tunes I enjoy, as a form of envy and respect for the original artist. Its not "just a beat" or an instrumental blueprint.
When I first heard rap it was way back in the 90s. It was stuff like Vanilla Ice, and Hammer, that I heard on the radio. I was a kid, and I loved it. Things would soon change for myself, as well as rap.
Fast forward a few years to 1996 when I used to rap along with tracks off Wu Tangs 36 Chambers in the school yard, and at home. Eventually I started writing a few lyrics as time passed here and there. These tracks have so far, as of yet not seen the light of day. As time passed I started freestyling over random beats on boom boxes during my last two years of High School. Any beat, or track the owner put on, I'd rap over most of the time just for the hell of it, just for the thrill of it.
The fall of 2001 I freestyled at one of the school's talent shows, while at Snow Jam the same year I caught Swollen Members, Bif Nakid, and Econoline Crush live. I also got to meet Bif.
I found I had become a protester, and a demonstrator by 2001. (Bet you didn't know that there are snipers on rooftops during most protest rallies these days, really makes you wonder how free your freedom of speech, and expression really is.)
This was also when I started listening to RATM, NIN, and making my own mixtapes containing late night weekend radio content on a radio station known as X-fm.
3 years later, when I was in college I would find myself with a new teacher, Jon Shearer. He taught my philosophy class, as well as my research class. We learned how to see things differently, and how to think. He introduced me to Immortal Technique,Talib, and the phrase corpocracy. I in return introduced him to my music, and other artists such as Non Prophets, and Saul Williams.
He became a customer for any of my music as well as a friend with a simple point when it came to respect and honesty. He demonstrated both of these things, and expected them back in return.
That winter I went on to write, and record my first track "Life,Failure, Death" at DEA in the city's South side, with Mike Weiser.
Soon after starting to write, and record I would meet Shroom Guy,join the AMP family, and a year after that I was put on his first mixtape. Shroom soon went on to give me an underground radio debut during the winter of 2006, my exposure continued until he quit the underground radio game in the summer of 2008. On November 1 2008, Jon passed away. A month after he passed I landed two spots on Coast 2 coast's Hustlers Volume 2 mixtape with the likes of Kanye West, and Illaj thanks to Lil Fats & Hi Rollerz. (You can download the mixtape for free through Coast2coastmixtapes.com, buy a copy of the CD from me by Paypal, or buy a high quality digital copy at 320kbps.)
Anyways,I could keep on going but in the words of a 2006 track "But yo I might digress".......
Over the past years I've met different people as a result of my involvement in rap, and hip hop music, such as studio engineers and so on. Over the past year (around the time I met Adam) I started producing and beat making. Since earlier this year, I have seen the death of "AMP" (Anti-Mainstream Productions.) I am one of the few remaining original members currently at work producing, writing, and continuing to work on my rap career, since Shroom Guy stepped down.
I take care of distribution, and getting my name out through promo bootleg sample CDs on the streets, digital download giveaways, and so on so keep your eyes peeled in case something comes up.
I like to read Chomsky, Jack Kerouac, Saul Williams or any other similar authors of the sort that have done a good job of grabbing my attention. I do have an interest in Che Guevera, as well as Bob Marley for his spirituality, and beliefs. I am also a fan of Mumia's radio essays. (You can't keep the people down, freedom ain't free.)
I'm always looking for people to work with in the future. Be it other producers, rappers, whatever. This isn't even limited to hip hop, or rap music but to also those who are political. In the words of Chuck D from Public Enemy ~ "Power to the People"

Glad to hear from you. I am a songwriter, not performer, my ideas come from the thoughts in my head at the time. I write alot of genre's. I believe, we, creative people, have a special something running through our veins. I believe in dreams, karma, meditation, visionary boards, etc. Always stay positive, it's hard, but it is a major key. I hope to have some music up soon. I've thought of entering contests, but who knows what is legit. Go with the gut feeling, I suppose. Keep in touch, I bet we have alot of the same beliefs. Much Happinesss, Success and peace to You, Bethany, Keep in touch....
