SILVER THREAD TRIO provides a fresh spin on centuries-old folk tunes from the Appalachian, folk-ballad, bluegrass, and gospel traditions. Their focus has been in maintaining the beauty in simplicity of these old songs, while communicating the emotion inherent in the stories they tell. Most of their songs end in tragedy, prompting a fan to suggest that their album be called 'Songs of Death and Misery.'
Although SILVER THREAD TRIO is solidly grounded in the a cappella tradition, their music features a range of instrumentation that complements and rounds out their varied songs. Pietrangelo is featured on banjo and rhythm guitar, with Kepner-Adney on lead guitar and Isaacs on washboard and spoons.
They are joined on their debut recording by an impressive list of guest musicians, including Dante and Marco Rosano (Rosano Bros. Virtual Quartet), Rudy Cortese (Cadillac Mountain), Sean Rogers (Awkward Moments and Y La Orkesta), Jimmy Carr (Awkward Moments), and the multi-talented Stuart Oliver (Dusty Buskers, Family of Light), who recorded and produced the album on his fledgling indie label, Old Bisbee Records.

"Caroline Isaacs, Laura Kepner-Adney and Gabrielle Pietrangelo ... have voices that give their words wings. While they've composed a few songs from scratch, they specialize in breathing new life into century-old folk/Americana songs by writing meticulous arrangements that capture the best of what each of these women has to offer. They added more instruments to provide texture ..., but harmonizing was their pillar, as evidenced by the silence of awestruck onlookers.... They occupy a precious place in Tucson's music scene, where delicate, seasoned voices and an attention to detail triumph over blaring guitars and accompanying feedback." --Tucson Weekly

Listening to the SILVER THREAD TRIO is “like being seduced in church,” according to KXCI DJ Laurie Starr. Their rich, intricate harmonies have been described as “angelic” and “intoxicating.”
This unique trio takes traditional folk songs and creates their own three-part vocal arrangements, bringing an updated version of old-school Americana to the Tucson music scene. Genres range from dusty folk, to bluegrass and Appalachian numbers, to spirituals, to standards like “Moon River,” with the occasional polka thrown in for good measure. The sound of their original and traditional material has been compared to Gillian Welsh, The Carter Family, and “syrup on your pancakes.” SILVER THREAD TRIO released its first album in December of 2008, featuring a 15-song culmination of the past two years of writing and arranging.

Now more than ever the All Souls Procession Weekend is in need of financial support. MMOS has managed to facilitate and produce many aspects of the ASP Weekend, but through sheer volunteerism, private donations and grant monies have we managed to put on an event-spectacle that for its scope, is ironically produced on a shoe-string budget. This year's events are already budgeted at $60,000. ANY amount helps!
Have you guys ever done any songs of the late great Kate Wolf? Her sweet, simple, heartfelt songs would be perfect for your voices. I can almost hear you singing "Across the Great Divide" or "Love Still Remains" ... you would leave a lot of lumps in a lot of throats ...
Thanks! It was deffinately a porch swing monsoon moment, they create the most interesting musical moments (Not always the best music per se). I'm hoping to make it to your next show.
