Contrasts - Photography Exhibit at Monsoon Galleries
Two premier fine art photographers, Olaf Starorypinski and Scott Nichol share their very different visions of the female form as expressive subject. Each artist will show works from series that evoke the passionate and the pastoral, the industrial and the ephemeral.
Scott will be showing works from 3 very different collections of figurative photography. The first collection explores the female figure and its place within the natural landscape. The second collection, called Some Ghosts, is a series of motion studies emerging from the transcendent and ephemeral nature of feminine beauty. The third collection in this show sculpts the figure from a marble palette of white studio light.
Olaf Starorypinski was born in London to Polish parents. He has lived in the Lehigh Valley for nearly two decades, currently residing in Emmaus and working from a studio in Bethlehem’s Banana Factory. His background as a light designer influences his photography sharp, vivid work with intriguing subjects and flawless technique. He photographs models in his studio and in some surprising, and recognizable settings. Bethlehem Steel has been photographed many times, but Starorypinski contrasts the stark industrial backgrounds with the soft curves of nude models for a stunning result unlike anything you have ever seen.

i am an accomplished fine art and figure photographer. this means that i often work with the naked human figure as an artistic object in my photography. some people may take offense to this or see it as some sort of pr0nography or perversion. if that's the case, i'm sorry. i'm not sorry for my means of artistic expression, i'm just sorry that your mind has been so narrowed as to only be able to see the human body as a sexual object.
it is confusing to me that our society in general feels that it is often more acceptable to portray visions of violence, pain, and suffering than it is to show the beauty of the human form. don't believe me? tune into any episode of Law & Order or CSI. they will gladly show you the myriad of ways a person can die a horrible death, but if janet jackson shows a half-covered breast for 2 seconds at a football game, then the FCC needs to start worrying about how to protect our children.
sorry, back to photography, art, and objects of beauty... i primarily work digitally and this gives me an incredible amount of flexibility for artistic expression. and while i don't exactly work to mimic the exact film grains, i do strive to achieve something that approaches the feel that comes from working with film. in my work, i am typically manipulating contrast curves and blending modes to achieve something that has depth and expresses the emotion that i seek from my subjects.
i have a small gallery of fine art figure work here that approaches the limits of what is acceptable here on myspace. unfortunately, that does not allow me much latitude to post much of my work here. i maintain a website at www.silverystars.com where you can see much of my work. there are other art sites that are much more open to artistic nudity and you can see my other profiles and portfolios sites here:
