If Led Zeppelin's Houses Of The Holy, Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie + The Infinite Sadness and Yes' Fragile had a big fight, I'd probably be a draw. But when not listening to those, I'll be listening to these...
Papa, Ian Dominic Breen, Claire Louise Barratt, Wesley Michael Roskell, Robert Barlow, Jack Bauer, Aimee Gallanders, Earl Hickey, Sam The Cat Barratt (RIP), Jeff Buckley, Simon Cowell, Brian Wilson, Eddie Izzard, Eddie Offord, Bill Bruford, Jeremy Enigk.
About me: I am John R. Simpson of Swinton, Manchester.
Pressing on strings and strumming them has long been an enjoyable pastime of mine. The melodic, sometimes cacophonous noise they make somehow brings me pleasure.
Hitting skins with smooth think flints of wood also makes my belly swell.
I was a dedicated parisher of the Church Of Strongbow until the Fellowship of Hoegaarden tempted me away but now Guinness is canvassing me.
Nearly everytime you see me, I will be wearing something blue or yellow.
The last seven years of my life have been amazing. The one and only reason for this is my once girlfriend, now fiancee Claire. She's well good. She's a Superhero Princess (TM).
I was a blood donor but I kept flaking out. Now they don't even want it anymore.
Or a <a href="http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=739288457>cat going apeshit.</a>
I have an incredible ability to unintentionally upset people but when I put my mind to it I am quite bad at it.<p>
There's a lot of people I'd like to a lot more of but I live on the wrong side of Manchester.<p>
90% of the time, I wish I was in Berlin or Paris.<p>
I really don't think there's anything else you could possibly know about me.
Who I'd like to meet: and shake hands with...
Eddie Izzard,
John Cleese,
Someone who has completed Resident Evil 4,
Stanley Kubrick (deceased),
Mel Brooks,
a Loco Roco (even though they have no hands),
Senator/President David Palmer (deceased),
Nina Myers (deceased),

Zaimph is the solo project of Marcia Bassett, better known as half of brutal drone ambassadors Hototogisu with Matthew Bower, as a member of shifting collective GHQ, which centres around Marcia and Steve Gunn and as a former member of the amazing Double Leopards unit. The music she makes under the name Zaimph sees her strangling some gorgeous dark drones from her guitar and delivering intense, hypnotic vocal performances. A true pleasure to welcome her to Manchester.
Bridget Hayden is better known around these parts as a former member of the highly influential Vibracathedral Orchestra and as a current member of the revitalised Telescopes, who may also be playing a set tonight. A self-confessed worrier in the live setting, she channels her nervous energy into performance, delivering something altogether more harsh than her recorded output. We can't wait. Bring your welder's masks.
We'll also see an all-too-rare-these-days performance by incredible Manchester guitar duo Serfs and opening the evening will be Warrington's only genius (surely), Infinite Light, playing a sparse guitar/bells/soaring vocals set.
Use this flyer to get free entry b4 10.30pm every Thursday at 42s
discounted tickets also available on the web page with guaranteed entry until 12am and all our tickets include a Q jump, well worth getting, especially if you have been to a gig in Manchester
Sun Ra Arkestra, Tuesday 11th November, The Deaf Institute (Trof), Manchester.
This will be the first time the Arkestra have played in Manchester since 1982 when they played the Royal Northern College of Music. You can find an M.E.N. article on that here: http://www. mdmarchive. co. uk/archive/showartefact. php?vid=44 if you're interested.
Sun Ra is no longer with the group for obvious reasons, but the band is now led in glorious style by 80-odd-year old Marshall Allen who has been an Arkestra mainstay since way back in the day. You can scope the very band you'll be seeing in the above youtube clip.
We can't tell you how excited and honoured we are to be able to put this on. Do we need to say how influential they've been, how exploratory, how searingly brilliant? For us, it's equivalent to being able to put on a show by the Velvet Underground.
Tickets will go on-sale next Monday 6th October from ticketline.co. uk, myspace. com/goldenlabrecords and later in the week from Piccadilly Records. There are only 260 places available so hurry because they'll go fast.
Performances by Motor Ghost (Alex Neilson & Ben Reynolds) + Beach Fuzz + Jon Collin + poetry and story readings by a multitude of contributors, including Oliver Neilson.
We're tripping to announce that the first issue of BREAD is now about ready to go. We came up with the idea and the cover back in the 'ought-five, so the cover price you see above is way outdated. That's because the zine is now bigger than we anticipated and includes a glorious compilation CD. It comes in a hand-stitched black card sleeve with a title sticker designed by the infallible Lucy Jones. Sleeve art by that dude of can-do, Dave Bailey. Oof!
Featuring:
Poetry by Byron Coley, Christina Carter, and Oliver Neilson
Stories by R.L. Perry, Nick Mitchell, Fliss Horrocks, Tim Horrocks and Nicholas Ainsworth
Drawings by Dave Bailey, Nick Mitchell, Fliss Horrocks, Pascal Nichols, Lucy Jones and Rollin Hunt.
The CD includes music by:
MV&EE, Directing Hand, Puff, Beach Fuzz, Astral Social Club, The Hunter Gracchus, Harappian Night Recordings, Part Wild Horses Mane on Both Sides and more.
