Interests

  • General

I am really enjoy going to the cinema. I like sitting in the dark with my popcorn and waiting for the first reel to appear on the screen. Love it and I don't go enough. I also enjoy going out for a beer with friends, be at the pub or at a party. My other interests are photography, computer games, reading and music.
  • Music

I like a lot of different kinds of music. From pop to rock to classical to metal. I especially like soundtracks. Notable mentions are The Killers, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, U2, David Bowie, Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Peter Gabriel, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, The Blues Brothers, Tangerine Dream, Howard Shore, Ennio Morricone, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, The Beatles, The Cure, Apollo Four Forty, Bruce Springsteen...
  • Movies

  • Television

American TV: The Wire, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica (Previous and New), Firefly, Babylon 5, The West Wing, Band Of Brothers, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, Deadwood, Malcolm In The Middle, C.S.I., Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, Columbo, The Rockford Files, House, Dexter, Monk, The Sopranos, Burn Notice, V. British TV: Doctor Who (Previous and New), Blake's 7, Red Dwarf, Father Ted, The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Only Fools And Horses, Sharpe, Extras, Porridge, Dad's Army, Citizen Smith, Drop The Dead Monkey, Mock The Week.
  • Books

I am into cinema related books - books about films, directors, actors and hollywood. I have enjoyed autobiographies about Akira Kurosawa, Sam Peckinpah, Clint Eastwood, Sergio Leone, Future Noir-The Making Of Blade Runner, James Cameron... I also read alot of novels. Anything by Philip K. Dick. Really like his mind-bending style. Robert Ludlum is another author I like. So thrillers, horror, sci-fi storys I enjoy reading.
  • Heroes

My main influence as a filmmaker is Stanley Kubrick. I was introduced to his films when I studying filmmaking. I had seen 2001: A Space Odyessy when I was a child, but it didn't leave much of an impact. Though being re-introduced to it, and his other films, was a real eye opener for me. Once I sat down to watch a Stanley Kubrick film, I am hooked and have to it to the end. He use of camera, actors and music is excellent. Every film he made is so different from the last one. He dabbled in every genre and each time it was really good. I also love how he had total control on set and had very little studio interference. It is a great shame he is dead, as I would of so liked of have met him. But what a legacy he has left behind.

About me:

Hello. My name is Simon Aitken. I am a filmmaker. I started working in the film industry back in 1998. I started out as a Set Runner. I worked on as many productions as I could, learning as much as I could about filmmaking. I spent a year working, until I felt I was ready to make my own films. My very first film was a short film called Fire Power. I have made more shorts, done a few music videos and TV pilots and I now have finished my first feature film. Who knows what the future brings, but I am looking to the challenges coming my way.

THE STORY SO FAR...

Who I'd like to meet:

I would like to meet fellow filmmakers like Ridley Scott, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, David Lynch, Tim Burton, Clint Eastwood, David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, John Carpenter, Sam Raimi, John Landis... Actors like Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Walken, Al Pacino, Bruce Campbell... Composers like John Williams, Ennio Morricone, James Horner, Howard Shore... Musicians like Bruce Springsteen, Kate Bush, The Rolling Stones, The Killers, Peter Gabriel, Paul Weller, Annie Lennox... You get the picture. There are lot of people I would like to meet.
