Simon has been told by various people over the years that he sounds like Sinatra, Jeff Buckley, Johnny Cash, Neil Hannon, Jim Morrison, Morrissey and Mel Torme... Go figure!
'The Simon Lawrence Band' are one of the hippest young jazz bands in the UK. Their debut album 'Streets and Bars' is out now.
The band was formed by crooner Simon Lawrence and jazz guitarist Miles Landesman. These two jazz musicians met as Simon wanted to perform the classic songs of Miles' mother, Fran Landesman. Fran, often described as 'the first lady of beat poetry', has been writing lyrics since the 1950's. Artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Shirley Bassey, Bette Midler, Ian Shaw and Barbara Streisand have performed her songs. Simon has written and recorded new music to Fran's lyrics and also some of her classics such as 'Small Day Tomorrow', 'Ballad Of The Sad Young Men' and 'Spring can really hang you up the most'. As well as Fran's songs, the 'Simon Lawrence Band' also perform other standards and Simon's own jazz songs.
Simon has been performing extensively for the last 5 years at some of London's best loved venues including The 606 Club, The BBC Club, The Spice of Life, The 100 Club, The Big Chill, Soho Theatre, Jazz After Dark and Ray's Jazz.
Simon Lawrence has been passionate about jazz from an early age and grew up listening to Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jnr, Dean Martin and many other crooners. Simon loves nothing better than to croon in some jazz bar. His jazz song 'I DON'T LOVE YOU (BUT MY HEART DOES)' has had great acclaim on radio and podcasts from all over the world. Go to his other page to hear more of his compositions by clicking on 'Simon Lawrence' in the friends section below. Universal Records' jazz label describe Simon as having 'A great voice. A big voice!'.
Miles Davis Landesman was born in St Lois in 1958. He came to London in 1964. Music has always been his first passion and he has played at distinguished venues such as the National Theatre and the Royal Albert hall. Miles also composes jazz songs for the band, following in the tradition of his Mother!
Colin Gilbert is our fab drummer and Karolina Barmuta our superb flute player. Dylan Morgan is our new whizz kid jazz pianist! Various other top musicians often gig with the band.

Love the music and adore the vocals! Simon I think you sound a lil bit like Jim Morrisson, and I'm hearing a bit of Frank but I also think you sound like the singer from Divine Comedy, either way you sound fabulous!! Let me know if you put any new songs up love to hear! Drop by anytime :) Suzy xx
