Simon Bächinger was born on 12.09.1988 in Zürich. Even as a child he was very interested in sounds, melodies and rhythm and he played enthusiastically on anything he could get his hands on. His considerable musical talent was evident even then. His mother, the music teacher Gabriela Bächinger, gave him his first piano lessons after which he was taught and mentored by the well-known Bulgarian concert pianist, Galina Vracheva.
Simon won numerous prizes and took part in various notable concerts at home and abroad. As a twelve-year-old he won first prize at the Solothurn International Music Contest in Laupersdorf and played with great success a concert by Mozart.
Working on many difficult classical pieces produced the fundament of his own authentic and unique jazzy style of improvisation. He lived in constant dialogue with his music and interpreted, experimented, improvised and composed deep into the night. His music room has always been his favourite place, says the 18-year-old Grammar-school student. He refers to the piano as his “truest friend”.
The richness of new ideas and influences and his ability to explore music in depth and translate it musically and technically in a touching and mature way is especially moving. This spark of highly sensitive creativity in his music is caught by the audience and has inspired many people to date.
Simon brought notice to himself again at this year’s Jecklin Music Contest with his newest composition, “My Rhythm”. This piece for drum and piano performed in the KKL-Luzern convinced the jury as a “very impressive work of form and creativity.”
In spite of his success, Simon Bächinger has remained a modest and reserved young musician who loves the richness and multifaceted nature of music above all and lives for this. He is considered a young, Swiss talent of great potential.
