About me: Had Me A Real Good Time had its genesis in 1975 when a youthful Simon Wright started playing records at his college disco in support of live acts who varied from The Troggs to The Sex Pistols. Over the next thirty years he amassed a collection of 650+ vintage vinyl singles. The next step was DJing at a friends birthday party in Sussex : Had Me A Real Good Time was the result.
Initially Had Me A Real Good Time played at the parties of friends and family but their enthusiastic reaction persuaded Simon to undertake a limited amount of other engagements. Today Had Me A Real Good Time is the soundtrack of choice for folks of a certain age and of a Mojo / Uncut / Radio Two / Radio Six / Observer Music Monthly persuasion. See under 'Music' below for a complete list.
Because all the records played by Had Me A Real Good Time come from Simon’s personal record collection there is a certain vibe which runs through the music you will hear. In comparison to CDs and iPods some of the older records have a bit of surface noise. But to paraphrase John Peel, life has surface noise.
