Simon Reid is a Scottish-based freelance song-writer, music producer, engineer, arranger, and performer.
Graduating with Honours in Popular Music from Napier University, Edinburgh, he prides himself on being
positive-thinking and pro-active, whilst remaining friendly and easy to talk to.
Regularly collaborating with writers and artists around the country, Simon is rapidly gaining himself a list of key
industry contacts and friends. Recent work includes arranging and producing an album of songs for Scottish
singer-songwriter and actor Tam White; performing in Toronto with
Scottish band We See Lights as part of Canadian Music
Week; and performing in Milan with LA-based Scottish artist Jamie Kimmett.
In 2007 Simon co-founded song-writing partnership Reid &
Stanners, with song-writing and business partner Louise Stanners. Based in Edinburgh, the team specialises
in writing and producing fun, radio-friendly pop music. Simon and Louise met whilst studying Popular Music at
University in Edinburgh and discovered that they shared not only similar musical tastes, but also the same drive to
become professional commercial songwriters. The pair are currently working on various projects with artists and
collaborators across the UK, as well as USA and Europe.
In 2008 Reid & Stanners were awarded a place on the BBC/BASCA Songwriters' Academy. Winning one
of only 60 places available across the UK (over 3000 entries were received), they were invited to take part in a
two-day Masterclass held at BBC Scotland in Glasgow. The event was one of four Masterclasses held in Bristol,
Manchester and London, and saw 15 of Britain’s most promising songwriters participate in group writing activities,
recording sessions, panel discussions and an open-mic session. Following on from the Glasgow Masterclass,
Simon and Louise were invited to perform at The Bedford, in London.
In January, Reid & Stanners signed a publishing deal with London-based Respect Music. Simon and Louise continue to work closely with
Respect Music, and its Director Sharon Dean (who was recently also appointed NARIP London Chapter Director).
March 2009 saw Reid & Stanners being awarded 1st place in the Pop/Contemporary Ballad Category of The Pacific Songwriting Competition (Australia). The winning song is called "Like You Said", and can be
heard here.
In April 2009 Barbara Orbison chose the Reid & Stanners version of the Roy Orbison song "You're The One" to be
included on a worldwide iTunes release entitled "Roy Orbison - Under
The Covers". Simon and Louise met Mrs. Orbison, as well as Alex Orbison and Roy Orbison Jnr. at the
album's launch held at London's Gibson Guitar Studio.
"Simon, what a pleasure it was to work with you, your input really took my latest album to another level entirely.
You have the rare gift of being a perfectionist and yet easy-going at the same time - something I've only seen in
the best and most mature musicians in this business. It's good to be a small part of your story because, I believe
your work is going to take you far, and many of us are going to be saying "I remember when...". All the best in all
you do, your pal, Bruce"
