    After starting out in Sydney's old school punk outfit Cult 45, Simon Starling moved to Melbourne and found a new passion for songwriting. Etherland was the vehicle to realise those songs and a self funded EP was produced, from which the title track 'Same Old Trap' received considerable airplay on Sydney's FBI Radio. Moving back to Sydney, Simon Starling started writing for a possible solo record and was surprised when the attention of The Church's Steve Kilbey was attracted. He subsequently produced the recording sessions which also feature drummer Tim Powles and pianist David Lane. The songs are melancholy yet hopeful, mostly acoustic guitar with occasional lashings of electric and topped with Starling's thoughtful melodies. A return to live performance in the new year and the release of his debut album are just the start. In the pipeline are collaborations and other projects that continue to explore new ground…
