"soothing tones and harmonies draw a gentle furrow that's easy to ease into" - NARC 2008
"if theres any sort of reference point for Simpleswan it falls somewhere between the experimentalism of New Yorks anti-folk scene and traditional English Acoustica.
"Though terafull lyricism underpins their bittersweet pop, the groups warm instrumentation and misty romaticism are undeniable charming."
Simpleswans acoustic wizardry finds them sitting snugly somewhere between the likes of Midlake and Shack" - METRO 2008
SIMPLESWAN are from Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England
SIMPLESWAN produce simple, melodic, and inventive pop tunes with creative and interesting lyrics. Originally starting out as The Young Criminals, an unusual solo act in January 2007 with Chris Anderson playing 1970s style pop/folk with a Guitar, Bass Drum, Hi Hats, and Keys (at the same time sometimes) Chris received a glowing response from the newcastle music crowds and decided to expand the one man effort.
Chris teamed up with Leigh Hughes in February 2007 who had a long history of singing and recording with various bands and began putting a set of similar tunes together with both male and femal vocals and harmonies.
After adding Bass Guitar from Craig Clark in August 2007 the Young Criminals enjoyed some brilliantly attended gigs, supported some great bands (The Maccabees) and (Darren Hayman (Hefner) and received promising reviews from different sources on the Newcastle music scene about their strange blend of NewFolk/Pop as it was becoming known as..
December 2007 saw the end of the Young Criminals as a 3 peice and 2008 sees a similar set up with the introduction of some new members in the new year and a lot of new tunes to add to what is promising to be a fruitfull and unusual band to look out for in 2008...
Simpleswan are now in 2008 a 5 peice alt/folk meets traditional english acoustica band building on the success of the Young Criminals. Simpleswans tunes have ventured deeper into the misty romantic heartfelt pop mood of a group of very talented individuals that seem to blend together naturally.
There is no stiffness or awkwardness with this band but more an organic flow of ideas and friendship that makes their music so accessible to everybody.
Hey SIMPLESWAN... Just thought I'd drop by to say hi and also wanted to say that I so enjoyed listening to your beautiful music on the radio last night... Super!! Julia xxx

Either follow the links above or search "Ever Since The Lake Caught Fire" on iTunes. The song has been played recently by Steve Lamacq on Radio 1 & Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music.
"Produced by ¡Forward, Russia!'s Tom Woodhead, debut single A Fire Born In Dallas (released on the Pay For The Piano imprint) finds post-hardcore and prog influences welded together to create a sound that is both vulnerable and self-assured. Admittedly, the usual influences of Fugazi and At The Drive-In are worn pretty obviously, but the band are far more than mere copyists.
Ever Since The Lake Caught Fire, it would seem, have more than enough firepower in their sonic arsenal to kick some of the music world's feted young pretenders into touch. " The Metro
4 OR 5 MAGICIANS At last a believable British retort to the drawling rambles of Stephen Malkmus - think Hefner's Darren Hayman fronting Guided By Voices - Music Week I really like the juxtaposition of the sort of dismissiveness and confidence rubbing-up against each other... a clattering pop-noise - Steve Lamacq, Radio 1
