Ask any punk fan about the California Sound and they will probably mention Green Day, The Vandals, or The Adolescents.
However - ask any of the musicians in these bands and they will say The Simpletones of Rosemead.
Originally formed in 1978 - The Simpletones released one vinyl single and were included on Poshboy Records' "Beach Blvd.", one of the first and classic US Punk compilations that featured young Los Angeles and Orange County bands (also included were The Crowd and Rik L. Rik).
Like many of the teenaged bands from that era, The Simpletones were short lived and disbanded early 1980.
Guitarist, songwriter and founder Jay Lansford eventually packed his bags and left the Golden State for Hannover by 1990 - where he has lived and played in several bands ever since.
To mark the 30th Anniversary of The Simpletones of Rosemead Jay has joined forces with new musicians to celebrate the songs, the innocence and the attitude of Southern California Punk Rock in the late 70's by forming Simpletones A.D.
Fans old and new can look forward to hearing the hits "I Like Drugs", "California" or the classic "I Have A Date", which became a worldwide sensation after legendary punks The Vandals included a cover version of the song on their 1996 album "Live Fast - Diarrhea"
