With a voice that has a smooth, melodic texture and can easily be recalled to singers such as El Debarge and Smokey Robinson, Kevon Carter joins such artists in creating songs about love blended with hints of r&b, jazz, acoustic, and tropical rhythms. The singer/songwriter and musician, was born and raised in the twin isle of Trinidad and Tobago, and has embarked on an independent music career in New York City - his current residence.
Interest for the musical arts was influenced by the Motown era, classic soft rock, and alternative songs from the 80s. At the age of 15, Kevon playfully strummed his Uncle's guitar and always envisioned that he would be singing and writing songs one day.
That day came when he turned 24yrs old; He began performing at several 'open-mic' nights throughout the club scene in New York City, where he rapidly created a buzz for himself being known as the guy who sings Michael Jackson and Maxwell songs.
Throughout his musical hustle over the past four years, Kevon has opened up for reggae acts such as Buju Banton, Super Cat, and Barrington Levi at Madison Square garden in 2008, and continues to showcase his versatility in his original compositions even more ever since. Staying true to the craft is very important to Kevon; Time was taken to assess himself as an artist, and has decided to take it a step further to truly assume his own identity as an independent artist. A spiritual connection was made with his music and through this new found inspiration, he is currently completing his debut CD.
The album is entitled 'Eclectic Lover' and is set to be released later on this year independently.
Kevon teamed up with his brother Jason Carter (producer/songwriter), Shawn 'Mastamind' Noel, and other talented musicians in a collaborative effort to produce the album. It is expected that Kevon will articulate love, peace, and his charismatic soul in song, and is excited to share his autonomous musical journey with the world one track at a time.
