Not sure about influences. I've certainly had many evolving loves... Too many musical/ poetical/literary loves in my life to mention - from ee cummings, Knut Hamsun (his "Hunger" was mine too!), Fyodor Dostoevsky, Nicolai Gogol, Jean-Paul Sartre, George Orwell, Wilfrid Owen, Antoine de Saint Exupéry, Russell Hoban (Hoban's "Riddley Walker" must surely be the greatest novel ever written, alongside Orwell's "1984"), Jefferson Airplane, Love (notably Arthur Lee & Bryan Maclean), Pink Floyd, Robert Hunter, Country Joe & the Fish, the Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa and Poco to Gustav Mahler and Anton Bruckner - from Crosby, Stills & Nash, Joni Mitchell, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Mel Tormé, Neil Young and Fairport Convention to Franz Josef Haydn, Dmitri Shostakovich, J.S./C.P.E. Bach & Jan Dismas Zelenka. Those are just some of the literary and musical loves of my life. I could mention many more.
Today, I'm listening to a number of passionate singer-songwriters such as Lynn Miles, Kim Richey, Lucy Kaplansky, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Kathleen Edwards and Lucinda Williams. I could mention more.
But how much any of the above writers or musicians have influenced my music/writing is for others to say. You take precious pieces of people with you. Having gone a little way into their world, they open up to new territory for you to explore for yourself, in your own way and in your own time. But I never want to be a clone! I'd like to hope that I'm musically original.

Sincerity was originally formed as a duo in 2003 and has since expanded to a five-piece band. Since then, the trademark emotionally-charged live performances have taken place in many venues.
"This is music from the heart - poetry set to harmony - love songs for the soul", explains Alan. "I want to reach people with music by encouraging them to delve deeply into a well of emotional experience and, as a result, to be enriched and even changed. That is surely the role of the singer-songwriter - not merely providing entertainment".
All Sincerity's songs - written and arranged by Alan – are love songs in one form or another, either about actual affairs of the heart or providing a commentary on the issues which affect people’s lives.
All Sincerity's songs aim to encourage people to think, to inspire them to live, feel and to love and to stimulate personal change. As Alan puts it: "I dreamed a metaphorical motto into my music. It goes like this: 'If music be the food of love and love makes the world go round, therefore music can change the world'".
Creating profound, thought-provoking lyrics and fine-lined melodies, coupled with an empathy for the privileges and perils of human passion, Sincerity sings songs of love and conscience. Music from the heart for the soul.
In an age of ersatz and apathy, Sincerity's words and music blow a welcome breeze into the music scene of the 21st century.

These lyrics are stunning. I can't quite glean from this, though, if this female's life and ability to love has stopped or never started. I sometimes feel as if 'she' is the child that was harmed, other times I feel as if she is experiencing this "death" as a result of the loss of her child.
Androgynous was an interesting word to use - that began conjouring up other possibilties...or did you simply mean that her desire had died?
The woman here, I think, was in some kind of ecstatic escape of her own to shield herself from her pain. The man, the lyricist, seemed to be in agony as well...maybe even in more agony.
I felt sad for the woman, I felt empathy for the torture of this man...I felt his sense of helplessness and desperation.
I don't know if I'm even close...but, the song itself was very powerful/intense. That came through both in the words you used, and the manner in which the guitar added punctuation!
I listened to the guitar as well, and found it to be so deliberate and really well played. I'd really like to know how off the mark I am..or on it :)

I have listened to "How Do They Know" over and over again, re-read the lyrics many times, and really do find it thought provoking. Your layout is very crisp looking, and fabulously informative. I don't always have alot of opportunity to turn up the volume as I would wish. I will turn up the volume tomorrow I hope!! I hope you are inspired to write many more like this... about struggle, triumph, and love, and offer others a different perspective. I would hope that people would listen carefully, and have the spectrum of their world broadened. Very well done!

I really like this new one. It is fast moving, it's tempo keeps flowing like the breeze, the fiddle adds great volume, and I particularly like the way this song kind of explodes with a crisp ending. I can feel the energy, and of course, the lyrics are wonderful! Well done, and time well spent! BRAVO Susan
