Born Clarence Eugene Snow on May 9, 1914, despite his lack of schooling, Snow was a talented songwriter and in 1978 was elected to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He was ten times voted Canada's top country music performer. In 1979, Hank Snow was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Nova Scotia Music Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 1985. In 1994 he published his autobiography, "The Hank Snow Story," and later opened The Hank Snow Country Music Centre in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.
As so many Hank was a victim of an abusive childhood, and he set up the Hank Snow International Foundation For Prevention Of Child Abuse. One of his last top hits, "Hello Love," became Snow's seventh and final No. 1 hit on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart in April 1974. At 59 years and 11 months, Snow became the oldest artist to have a No. 1 song on the chart. It was an accomplishment he held for more than 26 years. The singing ranger died on December 20, 1999 in Madison, Tennesee. Though gone from this world, he will never be forgotten, leaving us such famous melodies such as: "I'm Movin' On,""I've Been Everywhere," and "I'm Still Movin' On."
