"Katie Campbell is a fantastic talent! Her great vocal chops allow her to do just about whatever she wants with her voice, and make it sound easy. She's a vocal group lead soprano 'dream.' Katie is also very versatile: she can sound great on styles ranging from musical theatre to sensitive jazz ballads to 'light the place on fire' R&B tunes." (Michele Weir, jazz singer & arranger)
Kathryn Campbell (a.k.a. KATIE), a Los Angeles native, began singing in her parents' kitchen, taking all kinds of dance classes, and occasionally practicing piano. Her love of performing took her to Hamilton High School Academy of Music where she fell in love with vocal jazz and also participated in musical theatre. Katie left sunny California and completed her Bachelor of Music in "Jazz Studes" at Western Michigan University. While at WMU, she performed throughout Eastern and Western Europe and South Africa with the award-winning ensembles, "Gold Company," the "Gold Company Sextet," and the "Western Michigan University Chorale." Katie has performed in various jazz venues from New York to Los Angeles including Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Birdland, and The Jazz Bakery. She's also performed with Bobby McFerrin, Janis Siegel of the "Manhattan Transfer," and Darmon Meader of the "New York Voices." In 2004, Kathryn was named "Best Collegiate Jazz Vocalist" in the Downbeat Awards. After graduation, Katie moved to New York City and was the stand-by for both female roles in the a cappella ensemble, "Toxic Audio" in their off-Broadway show, "Loudmouth." She also performed in Mexico and the Caribbean with Toxic Audio. Since returning to Los Angeles, Katie has performed as the lead vocalist in the "Matt Roberts Group" (www.mattrobertsgroup.com & www.myspace.com/mattrobertsgroup), teaches part-time at Musician's Institute, studies acting and dance, and is a certified yoga instructor.
"Katie is equally at home in a Broadway belt or a lightning fast jazz solo. With accuracy and agility, Katie leaps registers with extreme grace. She has innate musical ability, which is immensely enhanced by her discipline and great work ethic. Katie is a quick study, extremely bright, and a joy to teach." (Sunny Wilkinson, jazz singer & teacher)
"'Poor Wandering One" introduces Campbell as Mabel, whose sweet, clear soprano [voice] steals the show on several occasions... 'Stay, Frederic, Stay' silences the nearly sold-out house with one of the most astoundingly beautiful musical moments onstage, ever." (Kalamazoo Gazette)
