Rocknroll music of all kinds, singing outloud, drawing a crowd. Dancing the night away, singing the blues, steering clear of bad news, hoping I'll make my dreams come true some day. You know, books and schemes and magazines, like Paste and Madame Bouvary, Leviathan and Rolling Stone. I'm not much into Cosmo or even Better Homes. But if you've got a guitar or a keyboard and can sing, now that's the things I'm talking about that make me take wing!
Music
Billie Holiday, Coldplay, Radiohead, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, David Bowie, Annie Lennox, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Janis Joplin, Chris Robinson, the Black Crowes, the Strokes, Jet, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Moby, Gwen Stefanie, the Music, the list goes on, Janes Addiction, Nirvana, the Pretenders, even Madonna, Prince especially Purple Rain, Yes, I know when I grew up... Rocky Horror Picture Show, the Cars, the Tubes, the Romantics, from Detroit even the Rick Hall Band was included in some of the crazy records my family had. Kiss, Michael Jackson, George Michael but not Wham, Harry Connick Jr, John Coletrane, Miles Davis, Ella Fizgerald, Judy Garland, Nick Drake on repeat for hours and hours on end, Beth Hart and my friend Vivian George, the guys from Sponge and the punkrockabilly sounds of the Orbitsuns. Patsy Cline, the Cowboy Junkies, Pat Benatar, Billy Idol, Blind Melon, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Courtney Love that wacky chick and some of Liz Phair's homegrown Chicago rock. But nothing if anything beat the sounds of 7 Million Jigawatts high energy rock.
Movies
Breakfast at Tiffany's, Casablanca, Clockwork Orange, Napoleon Dynamite, Singles, Clerks, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy fantastic fantasy brought to "reel" life. Mostly I enjoy older films before newer releases. I watched some great footage of Janis Joplin. I often spend the spare time with DVD concerts of some of my favorite musicians. The Who the Isle of Wright concert, David Bowie Reality Tour, and the Rolling Stones Altamonte have come into my posession.
Television
If I have time... Music Videos in the middle of the night and sometimes CSI: Las Vegas. I think the TV sucks the life out of you and before you know it you are old and going to die.
Books
Right now I am reading the following books:
The Devil in the White City
What color is your parachute
(I'm considering jumping!)
The Inner Game of Music
Other interesting reads:
Richard III, Romeo & Juliet, Dracula, Jekyl & Hyde. Most Ann Rice Vampire books including her raw sensual Sleeping Beauty series. Bukowski brings great dreams on. On the Road by Jack K. makes me want to run away across the countryside and wind up someplace new and strange.
Heroes
My Mom. The rest of my family comes in a close second. No one could measure up to good old Mom.
About me:
I'm the front-woman for
7 Million Jigawatts. Hailing from Detroit, 7MJ plays our own blend of rock, blues and soul music blended up in a way that makes you ask... Man what are they gonna play next? In 7 Million Jigawatts, I have the fortune of playing with talented guys like Mike Concepcion (of Mr. Knowitall), Jeff Nolan (of Dirty Deeds), Brandon Stults (formerly of Misunderstood), Clint Sabon (formerly Jiant), and Jake Tobias (formerly Mr. Happy Band). 7MJ's current line up features Nathan Montgomery on guitar, bass, keys and vocals, Jon E Vidal on drums and vocals, Jake Tobias on guitar, bass and keys, and me on vocals and percussion. 7MJ tours clubs and small venues around the Midwest. We are currently writing and recording tracks for our first album. You can listen to the first couple on th 7MJ myspace page.
7MJ recorded and released some Christmas music back in 2005. Why a holiday album? I woke up in Toronto the day after my birthday and said to Jake, "I wanna record a CD of holiday music f-d up the 7MJ way." I always love the holidays. I have fond memories of singing around the house with my Mom during Christmas. [yes, I'm a sap] AND So, we wrote a list of favorite holiday songs and hit the studio on a Monday night after work. We recorded in about three or four days. Jake spent night and day at the computer and mixing console. The first copies were on the street late December 2005 featuring Brandon Stultz on guitar/bass, Jake Tobias on guitar/bass, Clint Sabon on drums and me on the lead vocals.
The Attention Mongers is an acoustic pop/rock hits and odities duo with Jake Tobias on guitar. We play small private parties and small clubs around Michigan & Ohio.
Melissa Behring Project:
Featuring sultry songstress Melissa Behring and jazz pianist, Neil Donato, The Melissa Behring Project delivers a perfect balance between smoky “torch” jazz standards and a fresh approach to many familiar tunes.
MBP draws on Detroit’s finest assortment of jazz musicians, presenting a flexible contemporary jazz ensemble in a traditional format.

Hey Melissa, thank you so much for the add. You are an incredibly cool band front-woman-singer. Sorry that sounds so strange, but it's true. Looks like you know how to Rock Out. If you have a moment, I'd love for you to hear some of my music. Thanks again & best wishes.
Enjoyed the show last night... The couple originals I heard were really good... The one that you said your drummer wrote caught my attention... Looking forward to owning a recording... Cheers,
