Mike Foottit: acoustic/electric guitars, lead vocals
Dean Cherkas: acoustic bass, backing vocals
Blaine Powel: drums
Influences
Over the years all three of us learned from a variety of musical genres like blues, big band, rock, funk, latin, acoustic, alt. country, and folk to name a few.
Single Car Garage is a roots rock trio formed out of a recording project in 2006
Mike Foottit is a guitarist/singersongwriter with two solo albums and a third in progress. He has played at festivals in northern BC as a solo act but generally sticks close to home with work and family. Mike writes and arranges all of the original songs played by SCG.
Blaine's love of the drums began at an early age when he got a toy drum for Christmas. By the age of 10 he convinced his parents that drums were his passion. As his parents moved around Canada, he was fortunate to get lesson from Des Eagon in Toronto to Jim Blackley in Vancouver. His interests range and include Latin, Big Band, Jazz, and Country Rock. Blaine was part owner of "Drums Only" in Vancouver with Ray Ayotte for a number of years before returning to university and then the northern latitudes.
Session experience made up most of Dean's time while in University in the mid 80's at Studio West in Saskatoon. He has performed with a variety of bands and stages over the years. Touring with Ron Kalmakoff for the Saskatchewan Arts Council in the mid 80's was a blast. Dean had his stand up base ("Luba") made for him in Prince George by Jim Borden. Did we mention dean is a saxophonist as well!!
