Sinouj is an Afro-Mediterranean band which bases its music on Magreb and Middle Eastern traditions that they mix with contemporary jazz, funk, as well as West African Music. Sinouj therefore integrates such elements as Arabic rhythms and modes into a modern vision of jazz and funk music with an electronic tinge. Sinouj’s sound is characterized by its unique combination of oriental violin and sax propelled by an unstoppable African rhythm section. The richness and originality of Sinouj is owed to its members’ diverse musical and geographical backgrounds. The Spanish alto saxophonist Pablo Hernández has played with many different jazz, rock, funk, rai, and Arabic musicians that include Gecko Turner, Javier Paxariño, Charbel Rouhana, Nass Marrakech, and Wast el Balad among many others.Larbi Sassi, on the violin, is regarded as one of the most skilled performers of Arabic music of the Maghreb. He’s played with the top bands and singers of Maghreb music in his country, Tunisia, and abroad. The rhythm section is composed of two talented young players from Nigeria. Akin Onasanya, one of the most demanded drummers in Madrid, plays jazz, funk, r&b and African music. Kayode Kuti on the bass has toured all around the world with Seun Kuti’s band for the last three years. Last but not least, there’s Sergio Salvi on the keyboards. With his clever usage of electronic and acoustic sounds he gives the band a balance between the rhythm and lead section. Sinouj performs original compositions by Pablo Hernández, Larbi Sassi and Kayode Kuti, with several other tunes written specifically for the band such as Alger Constantine by the great Fabrizio Cassol, Aka Moon’s sax player. Sinouj is always searching for new innovative ways to communicate their traditional Arabic and Spanish influences from a contemporary jazz point of view. This open minded vision of music grants Sinouj the possibility to collaborate with a wide range of musicians such as Jorge Pardo, Fabrizio Cassol, Sylvain Cathalà, Zoumana Dembelé, Nantha Kumar and el Guadiana. Sinouj’s approach towards music also makes it easier for them to reach audiences worldwide, having played already in Algeria, Tunisia, Spain, France and Belgium /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Sinouj es una formación afromediterránea que basa su música en las diferentes tradiciones musicales del Magreb y del Oriente fusionadas con la música africana y el jazz. Partiendo de ritmos y modos de la tradición árabe, magrebí y del África Occidental, Sinouj combina estos elementos con una visión moderna del jazz y del funky, con un leve toque electrónico. El sonido del grupo se caracteriza por la combinación de violín oriental y saxo, impulsados por una imparable sección rítmica africana. La riqueza del grupo y la originalidad de su propuesta se basa en la diversidad de orígenes, geográficos y musicales, de los componentes del grupo. El violinista tunecino Larbi Sassi está considerado como uno de los mejores especialistas en música oriental de todo el Magreb, y ha tocado con las principales figuras de la música oriental Pablo Hernández, es el saxofonista de Gecko Turner, y ha colaborado con músicos como Javier Paxariño, Nass Marrakech, Charbel Rouhana, Selim Fergani o Pierre Vaiana.. La sección rítmica esta compuesta por dos grandes músicos de Lagos (Nigeria). Akin Osanasya a la batería ha tocado con Alex Ikot, Justin Chatchoua, los hermanos Vistel, Idris AbduKareem y es el baterista de Gecko Turner desde 2008 … Por su parte Kayode Kuti es el bajista de Seun Kuti, con el que ha tocado en numerosos festivales internacionales de jazz y world music. Finalmente, el napolitano Sergio Salvi a los teclados y a la programación, aporta el toque de equilibrio y de modernidad al grupo, gracias a su inteligente uso de los sonidos acústicos y electrónicos. Sinouj presenta composiciones originales escritos por Pablo Hernández, Larbi Sassi y Kayode Kuti, junto a temas compuestos especialmente para el grupo (como Alger Constantine de Fabrizio Cassol) y versiones de temas magrebíes, árabes y turcos Estos temas se inspiran tanto en la música norteafricana, árabe y turca, como en la música africana y el jazz contemporáneo, buscando nuevas vías que permitan unir músicas en principio tan diferentes. Esta visión abierta de la música permite que hayan colaborado con el grupo músicos tan diversos como Javier Paxariño, Dimitri Psonis, Jorge Pardo, Sylvain Cathalà, el Guadiana o el Yeyé De Cadiz.
