Sinsect is the industrial & experimental recording project of James Ashley. Sinsect began as a DJ in some of New York City’s industrial and noise venues in 1997, and naturally evolved into creating his own material. In 1998, his residency at Signal, an industrial & noise night at The Pyramid, allowed him the opportunity to play a brutal improvised harsh noise live show with Noizguild assisting. The performance was well recieved, and Sinsect made several lo-fi cassette recordings that were then reworked by New Jersey artist Ergot. These recordings became the first Sinsect album, Wrecking the Coastline.
In 1999 Sinsect relocated to Atlanta, GA and became heavily involved in performance art with The Secret Room troupe, as well as DJing at several local clubs. Between 2000 & 2001, Sinsect recorded a few rhythmic noise tracks and worked in the studio with F.O.S.A., a local noise artist collective, along with Self Inflicted, Meson and Otitis Media. Some of these recordings are documented on Sinsect’s Randomium, released as a free download.
2003 saw Sinsect moving again to Dallas, TX. This time, he decided to concentrate on solo material and experimenting with digital recording. These experiments became [Contained]. Later that year, his work took a more serious turn and culminated in the dark ambient album Hidden Agenda that winter.
Since 2006, Sinsect has been working more in the powernoise realm. Combining all of his past experiences and styles, the new album Darker Days Ahead is a dark, hard hitting blend of industrial, drum & bass, EBM and noise. Though serious in nature, it is not without a sense of humor.
