Influences
I don’t even know how to answer this question! Really?! but let’s just start with TODAY. Today at the gym, on my ipod I listened to: Basia Balut, the Kills, the new Sheryl Crow album, Hot Chip, Eric Hutchinson, Idlewild, Bishop Allen, Jon Foreman, katie Herzig, Chris Stills, Ryan Ferguson, Bright Eyes. That was this morning.
The following people are standards (aka I would not be writing songs were it not for these people): Mike Viola, the Candy Butchers, Fiona Apple, Elvis Costello, Mike Doughty, Brendan O’Malley, Rufus Wainwright, Richard Julian, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Spoon, Jellyfish, Wilco, Aretha Franklin

Siobhan’s music is a quirky mix of folk, pop, and alt-country-- a mash-up that reflects her varied musical tastes. Her lyrics can verge on funny: who else rhymes "optometrist" with "ventriloquist"? From the desolation as described in "The Fundy Bay Forecast" to the quirky humor used in "I Might Have to Deal Drugs In Order to Afford to Live in this City" (where the closing line of the song is: "The world’s oldest profession/ Don’t seem out of the question"), Siobhan’s lyrics sure do run the gamut.
In October 2002, Siobhan released her first album, titled "Permanent Markers", produced by Steve Rossiter at Axis Sound. In the years since, she has promoted the album and played throughout the NYC area.
Siobhan signed with the new NYC-based indie label, Blue Cocoon. The new album, tentatively titled "We’re All Relics", is scheduled to come out shortly. She plays throughout the city at venues such as Sine, Sidewalk, Bitter End, Parkside Lounge, the CBGB Gallery…she also recently wrote a song for the upcoming indie flick, titled "Broccoli", written and directed by Ann Husaini.
Siobhan’s musical career was a bit of an accident. Theatre was her first love. But her voice was deemed too "gritty" for the musical theatre world. So she did what anyone else would do: wrote her own songs! She mixes her sha-zitt up with guitar, banjo and piano. With her unique sound and smart lyrics, Siobhan O’Malley is one artist to watch!

Hi Siobhan. How did MMC12 go for you ? If you are free on Wed 3/26, please stop by Caffe Vivaldi at 32 Jones St in the West Village and say hi. I'll be playing from 9:30-11. All the best.
You add some much needed soul to "Genie." Sort of reminds me of the Travis version of "Baby One More Time." I love hearing upended versions of those pop diva songs!!! Happy 2008!
Hi Siobhan I am glad that you found me on Myspace. Very different sound that you have here than at Grizzi's. I like it. Glad that we met and got to hear each other play live. I hope that we can share the "stage " again in the future . Have fun at the MMC. I did it last year. Happy New Year

I promise to not be terrible. Nay, I promise to even be pretty good. And if I let you down, I promise to make it up to you.
(No, i haven't decided how yet, but I'm thinking something along the lines of awkwardly long hugs, chocolate milk, or having your back in an argument someday.)
