...Alan is great and his new album proves it! He's playing all of the instruments and playing them well. You'll have to hear it and do your own critique of it. I hope he gets a Grammy the next time around, I know that I’ll vote for it !! One of my close friends, Alan is a producer, writer and director of films, a fine actor, a dancer, a singer and, of all things, a ballsy drummer! -Hal Blaine, World's Greatest Drummer, Rock 'N Roll Hall Of Fame Member, Multi Grammy and Gold Record Award Winner

Bernhoft's home-recorded 14-song CD has a raw do-it-yourself sensibility that we admire. On the catchy "Send Me Home" his strained nasally vocal reminds us of Robyn Hitchcock doing folk blues. "Mrs. Sippy Bone" starts in a scratchy Delta blues vortex and then segues to a clear, modern-sounding realm. Though he's a shameless riff-nicker, Bernhoft channels scads of Sixties garage-band hooks and blues riffs in a way that is entertaining.

Jackson, MSs Alan Bernhoft takes Britinvasion influences from the Stones and the Beatles and jams a big ole punk foot up its ass. A touch of Delta blues creeps in the muddy One Girl and the 60s psychedelia inspired Im Crying Blood. Keep Your Hands Off My Baby is a raucous romp that sounds straight out of Liverpool instead of the Magnolia State. Tongue in cheek lyrics, leather clad vocals and a serious touch of fun further enhances this rockin disc

Alan Bernhoft is well-schooled in classic rock...everything from the Replacements to the Beatles, if you're willing to accept my definition. He's willing to dip into the blues, roots, punk, pop and just about anything else in order to write the song he wants to hear. This disparate and wide-ranging palette is held together by fairly primitive recording. Still, all those serrated edges can't take away from the sweetness of the songs. Bernhoft writes some of the tastiest hooks I've heard in a while. And, well, he's one hell of an expressive guitar player as well. He's not exactly a virtuoso, but he knows how to wring a song out of the strings. And that's more important than the finest technique on the planet. I simply cannot understand why someone hasn't taken a chance on the boy. He's a fine writer, and he has a great feel for crafting songs in the studio. Top notch.

...melds southern blues with a style reminiscent of the early Rolling Stones. The CD features plenty of crunchy guitars, hearty harmonicas and expressive, raw vocals. The production is stark allowing emotions to flow to the top. 'Baby Cigarette' is the energized opener, puffing along on rocking guitar leads and punk vocalization, a creative fusion of styles. 'I'm Crying Blood' has haunting instrumentation and vocals that grow more crazed as the story of lost love unfolds. Sorrowful, bluesy guitars lead to a pinnacle of pained, screeching vocals. 'Can't Stay Away' has a funky, groove combined with a punk attitude and a guitar jam. Funny enough, the song is not an angry punk song, but an ode to a fine girl. Mrs. Sippy Bone is an erratic yet entertaining collection of songs that uniquely marries soulful, blues with punk rock! • Recommended Tracks: (1,3,8)

One can easily tell that Bernhoft is a seriously talented musician, who has great musical chops, as well as an appreciation and understanding of classic and modern rock. Bernhoft should be quite happy with Mrs. Sippy Bone- he’s quite a musician, playing all the instruments on the album; songs like “I’m Crying Blood” showcase some great electric guitar work, while “Send Me Home” shows Bernhoft can play a mean acoustic blues guitar. Mrs. Sippy Bone is a valiant effort by a talented musician at melding blues and punk together; songs like “Keep Your Hands Off Of My Baby” can be fun to listen to.

Clever college radio rock with Blues roots and bedroom band sensibilities. Alan sometimes displays some real soulful singing, often moves from soulsville into a retro-60s pop fantasy that reminds me of the fake band from the Tom Hanks One Hit Wonders movie. Which is good, I liked that movie.

The title of this latest CD from Alan Bernhoft sets the anticipation level before the first cut slaps you silly. Great fusion of punk and blues, easy to do; try it sometime. This artist has a gift in blending rasp, sass, moody, and to the bone blues. Way to go my man.

Ever wondered what it would sound like if all the legends and innovators of rock and roll got together today, in the year 2004, and recorded a CD? So did I. And I just heard it! Alan Bernhoft's "Mrs. Sippy Bone" is at its core true to the heart of rock and roll. It is the roots of rock and roll, the trunk, the branches and the leaves. It's everything rock and roll was meant to be. It’s music that moves your hips and stirs your sole. Kudos to Alan for a CD that is great from start to finish. You'll be hard pressed to find a weak song on this one. It is enjoyable from the first guitar crunch to the last drumbeat. Not since the Ramone’s has there been a revolutionary twist to music that reintroduces us to the heart of rock and roll. This is a great CD to add to any collection.
